If I'm reading this right, the 112th Congress has passed 23 bills and resolutions. Most are temporary continuations of stuff. Some are to do with FISA and the PATRIOT Act. A handful designate certain buildings as Courthouses or give names to Post Offices. Over 10% involve appointing 'citizen regents' of the Smithsonian.

The number of House members actively involved in the debt ceiling negotiations must be less than 10. The number actively involved in the ATF Gunrunning investigation must be similar.

As I understand it each Congressperson gets over a million dollars a year to run their Office. That's a lot of money for hosting 4H delegations.

What are they doing all day?

It appears that the Republicans in the House are spending their time trying to road block the Dems and Obama.  I believe that, as the opposition, they are actually, for the first time in living memory, actually engaged in opposing.

Given that the same money would be spent if they were not opposing, we are, as I said, for the first time, getting one helluva deal !!

Fair enough. There seem to have been some 483 votes in the House this session. I am heartened rather than the reverse that this has given rise to so little extra legislation.

But, but... Where are the inquiries? Where are the administration figures being held to account? Where are the 'Omnibus Repeal of Stupid Laws Volume 1 Aa-An' Bills?

Raising money. I'm not kidding. Does anyone remember that McCain and Feingold used this fact as a key part of their argument for getting their election reform bill passed in 2007? Of course, the reforms failed. McCain followed the fundraising limits while Obama entirely ignored the limits, and nobody called him on it.

Heh. Except that it takes a bill to repeal something, as well.

I actually started looking at some of the pending bills. You could certainly keep busy keeping up with all the important business of the nation such as H.Res.342 "Expressing support for the designation of July 30, 2011, as National Dance Day". But I don't see how you'd spend over a million dollars a year doing it.

Really, what are all these Tea Party supported guys and gals, swept into office on a tide of popular disgust at overmighty government, doing? It wouldn't surprise me if they were (pace River) raising money - the FEC site is depressing - but, wow; what is the point?

What price Peter Robinson's sunny California optimism now?

Actually, you can check on what your Congressman is spending at disbursements.house.gov

The farther you live from DC and the prices for real estate in your district determines how much your member gets.

Mine? She's probably lining up another lunch date with Fidel Castro for the Congressional Black Caucus in between making sure we're defeated militarily overseas and overrun with the needy poor of Mexico. Other than that, who knows?

My congressman replaced Vic Snyder and is the the first Republican elected from the 2nd district in 20 years.  He's on the Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, Judiciary and Republican Study committees.  So I've got no complaints.  Yet.

As little as possible, I pray. My congressman is running for governor and my senators are Murray and Cantwell.

What I would like to see is a series of up or down repeal votes on every section of the U.S. Code, starting with Title I, Section 1 which, by the way, I hope survives if for no other reason than to maintain the provision that

the words "insane" and "insane person" and "lunatic" shall include every idiot, lunatic, insane person, and person non compos mentis
