What Are Your Favorite And Least Favorite Summer Olympic Events?
Things have seemed a little serious around here lately, at least in the threads I've been in. So, as is my wont, I decided to start something a little lighter.
We've got a little over 3 weeks till the opening of the London Summer Olympics, so I've got some questions for my fellow Ricocheters.
- What event are you most looking forward to seeing in the Summer Games?
- What event do you wish they'd yank from the Summer Games?
- What sport do you most want to see as an event in future Summer Games?
I think I might know what one wins (or loses) for question 2, but I could be wrong... I have been in the past.

Did you happen to catch the cable show Full Metal Jousting, I think it was on the History Channel? They pretty much resurrected actual medieval jousting, not the staged jousts you get at certain theme restaurants. Ironically, some of those theatrical jousters entered the competition. · 8 hours ago
No! Darn It! · 10 hours ago
I think you can find it on DVD. :)

Try the military pentathlon: riding, fencing, shooting, swimming, running.
And the winter event is the Biathlon: cross-country skiing and shooting.

Yes, there's a percentage who prefer Greco-Roman wrestling--not that there's anything wrong with that--but what of the drama introduced pre-jerk? The weight is cleaned and from this position we owe it to ourselves to stop and admire the rack: chest high, heaving under weight and tension, beads of sweat well up and trickle down. Then, the deadly question alights: can full extension be attained or will there be a wilting under pressure, a failure to perform? Self doubt hovers on the fringes of conciousness, but is pushed back and with a forcefull drive of the hips, dropping and extending, pushing upward, ever upward until fully erect! Whew, I need a smoke...
Now, admittedly, the Snatch is truly magnificent: explosive, yes, nearly orgasmic one might say. Yet, somehow unsatisfying, as if the task were discharged prematurely. Crouching with a wide, strong grip the weight is hoisted in one swift, thrilling movement, gravity, pressing down through every trembling fiber, the muscles of the thighs and buttocks clenching, throbbing, lifting, screaming in an agony tinged with pleasu... [CRACK] Ouch! My Super-ego just rapped my Id across the knuckles with a ruler!

More emphasis on all track and field, boxing, wrestling and the type of stuff they did in ancient Greece. Less emphasis on stuff that has subjective scoring. New stuff I'd like to see: rugby and jousting.

As would I. It's no more violent, and actually less dangerous in the long term, than boxing, which is already included.
As to what I want to see, I'm purely conventional: girl's gymnastics, women's soccer, men's basketball.
The Olympics lost a lot of their appeal when I realized I was too old to find the gymnasts attractive.
