Welcome, Meghan.

Just don't write about Palin and bullfighting in the same post or You'll break the servers.

As someone who has never really "got" Ricochet - I've subscribed three times, and cancelled twice - I report unsurprisingly that I don't "get" this either. Not that I wish Miss Meghan ill, or intend to avert my eyes from her writings. The listing of credentials just...misses me. I stare and stare, and I still don't see anything like "has slain many beer cans with her BB pistol," "walked across a snowy field, at the direction of a Belarussian soldier, to use the facilities," or "crossed the Equator in the back of a pickup truck."

I make it a point to view contributors' profiles and I am struck by how cautious they often are - when such profiles are not concealed outright. I wish that that were not the case. One's jobs are hardly a liability - indeed, on a blog, the fact that one has ever had any at all is a definite plus - but I do wish for a storied past that can be breezily captioned.

John H.:  The listing of credentials just...misses me. You know, John H., there's an easy solution to this.  Just ask Meghan anything you'd like to know about her right here in the comments.   I'll start us off.  Meghan:

  1. What's the last book you read?
  2. Who's your favorite liberal?
  3. If you had one extra hour of free time in a day, how would you use it?
  4. What's your favorite beverage?
  5. If you could have a conversation with one person, dead or living, who would it be?
  6. What's the worst job you've ever had?

(If some of these questions sound like I ripped them off of a site called "Questions for Your First Date," that's because...)

Meghan Clyne, Guest Contributor

Thanks to everyone for the kind welcome wishes ("creepy" ones included), and especially to Crow's Nest for being a fan of National Affairs.

To John H., sorry the bio disappoints. In order to try to make amends, let me reply to Diane's inquiries:

1. Since we're attempting to stay off the topic of work, which accounts for the last half-dozen books I read, I'll offer the last one consumed just for fun: The Truth About Chernobyl, by Grigori Medvedev. A bit technical, but completely engrossing.

2. My college roommate.

3. Some combination of prayer, exercise, doing something to help other people, making progress on the massive art project that's been taking up space in my apartment for the past year, and devoting more time to studying Japanese (for starters).

4. Diet ginger beer (Bermudian style, not Jamaican or Australian).

5. The Virgin Mary.

6. I take the Fifth.

Also, for what it's worth, I've crossed the equator eight times (four round trips), by air and by sea--but not in the back of a pickup truck. Yet.

...OK, that's all very commendable, but what do you do for fun?

(And by the way, welcome to Ricochet!)
