Welcome Marybeth.

I would be interested in your take on the Democrats' somewhat-recent mantra about fighting for the middle class.

It's my understanding that Saul Alinsky counseled that organizing among the poor and making them wards of the state was simply the foundation for a revolution - that the middle class was the real prize.

Having no children of any description, except for a sister (Cleopatra Licentia Smith) who's 19 years younger, I can't relate. But certainly appreciate folks who have lots of kids. They're picking up our demographic slack.

Looking forward to your stories!

Welcome Marybeth!

I was thinking about contributors and it would be cool if every once in awhile the members could contribute. They do it on other sites occasionally and sometimes it works.

Welcome, Marybeth. It seems you would have lots of good advice for a gal like me. I've got three very young children, but I'm already fretting about the dreaded "culture" that's sure to capture my children and steal them away in the night! I'm kidding, but I am serious about looking forward to your commentary on such issues.

Welcome, Marybeth! Not sure what you mean by protecting children from our culture... I, for one, prefer to embrace new trends, so as a mom and minivan owner I may splurge on the 2011 Toyota Sienna Swagger Wagon Supreme. There are so many forms of entertainment on board (home theatre, computer, Xbox 360, etc.) that my children won't have to waste even one precious moment communicating with each other or their parents. Simply brilliant. Here's a video link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZ3QWdy-2WE and the specs http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota/2010-sema-show-toyota-sienna-swagger-177678.aspx in case you're interested. The other moms in the parent pickup line at school will be soooo envious as they see me lounging in the massage chair enjoying a chilled Perrier while casually perusing the Ricochet website. Every time the line moves forward I think I'll raise and lower my hydraulics just because I can...

There should be some Survivor style voting mechanism where you can "elect" someone to a Ricochet senate seat with a definable term and a gaggle of senatorial aides so that Steyn can complain about the emirs of Ricochetsistan in the next podcast.

Wow! My pal David Limbaugh assured me this would be a friendly place to post commentary and chat with readers, and clearly he wasn't kidding! Thanks for the warm welcome, all. I'm looking forward to a great week together. More shortly...

Uh oh. Just noticed you're a redhead.

Normally, we don't allow gingers in here (just ask Jason). But if you're a pal of David's and Diane's, I guess we can look the other way.

Well, well, carrot-top. Right on time.

We just agreed to let Marybeth hang around despite the unfortunate hue of her locks, because she is a friend of friends.

But you lack connections, pal....

Has anyone explained the Sasquatch Muslim rule to Marybeth?

Although there is no empirical evidence of the existence of the rumored "Moderate Muslim", certain Ricochet contributors are insistent on said existence. In order to spare Ricochet the exorbitant expense of wasted bandwidth pursuant to the eruption of a controversy on this subject, members' comments shall be restricted to the following phrase: "Well, one time I saw this lady in the supermarket with one of those, um, things over her head? And she seemed like a nice person."
