Welcome Elizabeth Kantor
Joining us on Ricochet as Guest Contributor this week is Elizabeth Kantor, author of The Politically Incorrect Guide™ to English and American Literature and an editor for Regnery Publishing.
Elizabeth earned her Ph.D. in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.A. in philosophy from Catholic University of America. She's taught English literature, served as editor of The Conservative Book Club, and written for publications ranging from National Review Online to the Boston Globe.
I'm a fan of Elizabeth's dry humor and quick wit and wish that my English Lit professors had half of her infectious enthusiasm. Her Politically Incorrect Guide serves both as a great resource for an overview of the classics and as encouragement to try out some of the works you may have avoided.
So I can't wait to read her latest book, The Jane Austen Guide to Happily Ever After. I hope she'll share some insights from that book, which is coming out this week!
Elizabeth is happily married and lives with her husband and son in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Please join me in welcoming Elizabeth Kantor to Ricochet!

Re: Welcome Elizabeth Kantor
I've had Elizabeth's book for a while, now (one of the last dead tree books that I bought) - thanks for the reminder to read it!

Re: Welcome Elizabeth Kantor
Welcome aboard.
I've read a couple books in the Politically Incorrect Guide series. I'll add yours to my list. Having pursued a liberal arts degree, I'm only too familiar with the dismal state of literature courses... even at a nominally Catholic university.

Re: Welcome Elizabeth Kantor
It took me most of my life to get around to actually reading Jane Austen, but I'm glad I finally did. Welcome, Ms. Kantor.

Mollie,
They say don't curse the darkness but light a candle. Elizabeth appears to have lit a very bright candle. How wonderful it is to have her in our midst.
Regards,
Jim

Welcome, Elizabeth! It is a truth universally acknowledged that any friend of Jane's is certainly a friend of mine! And to fast-forward 50 years or so, do you plan to watch Great Expectations this evening?

I must have been thinking i before e and not after indubitably..
Re: Welcome Elizabeth Kantor
Lovely to meet you all! Great Expectations is one of my favorite Dickens novels--& though it was written much later, it's actually set in Jane Austen's Regency period (so that I ended up quoting it in The Jane Austen Guide, on the subject of assembly balls)--but I won't be seeing it tonight. Life is a bit crazy, with the book pubbing tomorrow . . .
Re: Welcome Elizabeth Kantor
I'm excited about your week with us, Elizabeth! And also very intrigued by the title of your forthcoming book.

I can't believe I've never read The Politically Incorrect Guide to English and American Literature - as a conservative English teacher, this is going to make my day! I'm excited to have her on Ricochet!
