Welcome Carol Liebau
Carol and I have been friends for years. Her husband Jack and I went to the same school, and I distinctly remember our first meeting at a dinner years ago where we bonded over, in no particular order, the crackpot left-wing politics of California, our dogs, Hugh Hewitt fandom, and Ronald Reagan's awesomeness.
Since then, she's written a terrific and funny book, Prude: How the Sex Obsessed Culture Damages Girls (And America, Too!), guest-hosted for the great Hugh Hewitt, blogged at Town Hall, and appeared pretty much everywhere making cheerful, witty, smart, and tough conservative arguments.
She also went to Harvard. And is a lawyer. So she's not perfect.
We're thrilled to have her here, and I know she's going to fit right in. Welcome, Carol!

Re: Welcome Carol Liebau
As I recall, she is one of the few people to remember Mr Obama at Harvard.

Right! I forgot about that!

She has some terrific ideas for podcasts, too. Rob, check it out.

Hi Carol!
I've had the pleasure of meeting Carol and she is a delight and I couldn't be happier she is joining us here at Ricochet. She is the source of one of my favorite comebacks:
When someone says to me: I didn't know you're a conservative!
I reply: Are you kidding? I'm so conservative I once got a lunch with a talk-show host for a BD present!
Carol is the friend of a friend, said friend knew I was a fan of Carol's; my friend invited me to lunch for my 50th (oh such heady days ... right before BO was elected for the first time) and Carol graciously joined us. One of my favorite BD presents ever! (and it took the edge off of turning 50 ...)

Welcome to the best collective on the Internet. Worriers of the World Unite !
My last child is 16 years old and she is a beautiful young woman and the world she lives in is vastly different from the one I inhabited at the same age. Going to an all-boys school might have something to do with my dunderheadedness, but you probably have to ask my older daughter about that.
Will you be available for questions , leading us through the maze of possible defenses against the zeitgeist ? Being simplistic, I see my enemy as the culture ( how quaintly reactionary) , and work to thwart it.
She excels at Call to Duty, cheerleads, has friends in all quarters, and we're really good friends.
But I remain her father and that can't be forgotten.
So my question is this : how do I steer her towards Dartmouth instead of Harvard ?

The Dartmouth campus is beautiful, if a bit remote.
Re: Welcome Carol Liebau
Also, just keep in mind that a choice between Dartmouth and Harvard is one many would be grateful even to have! She really can't go wrong -- and if you've raised an independent thinker (as I'm sure you have), going to Harvard would be a character-building experience.
Being a conservative in a sea of liberals not only gave me stellar insights into the liberal mind, it also forced me to think through and refine my positions. Liberals miss that opportunity -- and frankly, I think that's often obvious in the way they debate (or don't!).
