Election year polling.  Nothing else has the capacity to hurl political junkies into a bout of depression or, alternately, into something akin to a sugar high quite like the volatility of polling data.  But explanations of what's going on behind the scenes to drive the trends are often elusive and dissatisfying.

That's where the Schaeffers, a husband and wife "opinion research nerd team" (Sabrina's words, not mine) come in.

Adam Schaeffer is director of research and co-founder of Evolving Strategies, a public opinion research team that has conducted some very cutting edge work with experimental online focus group polling.  Adam, who received his Ph.D in American politics from the University of Virginia, has developed the methodology and survey instruments for numerous online and telephone experiments as well as field experiments measuring the impact of an ongoing issue campaign and a strategic survey of policy elites.

Sabrina Schaeffer is the executive director of Independent Women's Forum.  Prior to her work at IWF, Sabrina was a co-founder and managing partner at Evolving Strategies. She also served as speechwriter to Ohio Senator George Voinovich, director of media relations and public affairs at the Republican Jewish Coalition in DC, as a communications associate with the White House Writers Group, and as an assistant to former UN Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick at AEI.  Additionally, Sabrina Schaeffer and co-author Carrie Lukas have just released their new book Liberty Is No War on Women, in which they take to task the insulting and patronizing rhetoric used by liberals to appeal to women voters.

Please join us in welcoming the Schaeffers to Ricochet.

Superb. I am struggling to understand the conservative view on women and will be very interested to learn more. The book will be a birthday present for me, my husband will be relieved not to find me something.

"a strategic survey of policy elites". The mind boggles.

Welcome!

Adam Schaeffer

Thanks Diane!

Looking forward to some great conversations . . . the state of the world and our country might give us all anxiety attacks, but no one can say it isn't an interesting time in politics.

First area I'm going to wade into; polls, political behavior, and what we know heading into the 2012 election.

I am also looking forward to some illumination and great discussion.  I do have anxiety about this election.  My background is medicine, I am a consumer of information when it comes to politics, and I  am baffled by this presidency.   Is there something I'm missing, this guy should not be reelected.

Very excited for this week! I'm a big fan of Sabrina's and look forward to hearing from Adam as well.

Great,  maybe they can give an explanation as to why mandatory ultrasounds shouldn't be classified as a war on women.   Not to mention unconservative in nature.

Welcome! It will be useful to have some insight into polling. I suspect it is a misunderstood art.

Cavalry to the rescue.  The nation is at stake and, based on "polling data", I feel like I'm watching the traveling cast of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

Help us Schaeffey Wan-Kenobi, you two are our only hope.  ;)
