Weiner's Constituents Want Him to Stay in Office
From a Marist Poll released today, via CNN:
New York voters are standing by their 9th District man – according to a new poll 56 percent of voters in Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner's district do not think the scandal-plagued congressman should resign.
The Marist poll released Thursday was conducted before it was confirmed that Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin, is expecting their first child but on Wednesday well after Weiner's much-publicized press conference.
And though respondents may not have been aware of the newest development, almost three-quarters think that Weiner's conduct was unethical, but not illegal. While 46 percent question his personal judgment, only one in 10 now question his professional judgment.
It seems to me that the pregnant-wife detail is more than just another wrinkle. I wonder what the number would be if they polled today.
But 56% is pretty high, considering. It's hard to believe that many people -- even in his home district -- want him to stick it out.
As it were.

Re: Weiner's Constituents Want Him to Stay in Office
He's not anybody's Weiner. He's their Wiener.

Of course, the true poll will come in 2012. From what I've heard Weiner's district is pretty liberal, so they'll probably go with the progressive sex perv over the conservative straight-and-narrow guy.

I'm still hoping to see CNN announce "Weiner/Spitzer - an hour of probing questions and penetrating analysis."

Re: Weiner's Constituents Want Him to Stay in Office
Were the constituents asked if they had actually seen Little Anthony and the Imperials?

For one thing, I want Congressman Albatross Weiner in there for a long, long time.
For another, he won't have those constituents very long, there's talk that his CD will be one of the two that gets the axe in redistricting and he'll be put up against some other Dem Congressman.

I don't imagine the "father-to-be" angle would change the minds of his constituents. I mean, if anything, they could now argue that he needs his job more than ever. The poor man's got a family to support.
Understand that I use the term "man" loosely.

Re: Weiner's Constituents Want Him to Stay in Office
What frosts me is not only how pathetic Weiner is. He's not some sort of ladies' man, he's using Twitter to have laughably awkward explicit conversations as if he were King of the Nerds and sending pictures of his genitals (because women just loooove that). That's the story here.
But this isn't even a sex scandal. Lest we forget, this all broke because Weiner spoke of a hack. And he let his minions go after a private citizen, @patriotusa76 and after Andrew Breitbart based on no evidence other than Weiner's accusation of a vast right-wing conspiracy.
We must remember always that liberals engage in projection. It's not we who think of this as a sex scandal, it is they. They think of it as sex. They are the ones who cannot get past the puerile. Most people can't imagine people don't think of the world the way they do and liberals are never forced to confront thought processes different from their own.

Never thought I'd say it, especially so quickly, but I've got "Weiner fatigue."

Wait until they see that the jokes never end. Wait until he gets asked a few more hundred times if he persists in the activity. Wait until none of his colleagues wants his name on their bill. Wait until he does it again. Then maybe they'll grow tired of him as their rep.

This has been stated already, bears repeating... If this what his constituents want, it is just a reflection of all of them. You get what you deserve there New York.....
No Respect....

Re: Weiner's Constituents Want Him to Stay in Office
From the beginning of this idiocy I knew that if he didn't resign he would be re-elected. Leftists have no virtue and only a leftist constituency could have elected him. I believe it is called moral relativism.

"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard." - H.L. Menkin
If his constituents love him so much let them elect him mayor. That way his antics could at least be confined to a smaller sphere of influence and still provide plenty of entertainment for the rest of us.

Re: Weiner's Constituents Want Him to Stay in Office
It’s human nature not to want to admit to making a mistake. Investors often hold onto stocks, sometimes until death, rather than take a smaller loss because doing so would formally acknowledge buying that stock was a mistake. So, it’s not surprising that voters are unwilling to cop to the fact that they inflicted this creep on the body politic. I have no doubt that if he lasts long enough to run for re-election (and he won’t – I don’t think he’ll last the month), he would be voted out.

A cynical person would say it's good for the Republicans if he stays.

Re: Weiner's Constituents Want Him to Stay in Office
Rob,
This is not surprising. I hail from the great state of Louisiana where politicians do not resign for such things. Senator David Vitter was on a D.C. madam's list of clients. As that was a national scandal, what received less attention was that he was also on a list of a madam in New Orleans. His first election since the scandal was November 2010 and he handily won as he carried 61% of the vote. His challenger, Charlie Melancon was a House member at the time (as it were) and ran his campaign against Vitter not only highlighting the scandal, but using it as his platform. Some of the commercials suggested that Vitter used "your tax dollars" to have sex. Really. I enjoyed it.
My point is that although Weiner'w behavior is reprehensible and nauseating, he did not do anything illegal. Unethical? Absolutely. Ultimately, it is up to his district to decide whether they reelect him or stiff him at the polls (as it were).

weiner is the face of the dem party. i hope he doesn't resign.
Re: Weiner's Constituents Want Him to Stay in Office
If you're hoping for GOP gains, you should be doing everything in your power to get Weiner to stay. There's a reason that Republican members are generally staying quiet about this while Democratic leaders are doing their best to get him out. It's not about his constituents but how this tars -- Foley style -- the entire party.

Re: Weiner's Constituents Want Him to Stay in Office
I hope this poll didn't shock anyone. In the big Democratic coastal cities, what Weiner did doesn't end your career, it gets you street cred. He might as well have earned a merit badge. Barney Frank and Ted Kennedy's careers should have told you all you need to know about the voters of Democratic strongholds.

Give them time. New Yorkers don't like to be told what they should do, but over time, there's a powerful ick factor here that might come into play.
