The United States, 1, Algeria, 0.

Landon Donovan, the 28-year old American forward, after the United States' unlikely victory in the World Cup competition today:

This team embodies what the American spirit is about....We had a goal disallowed the other night, We had another good goal disallowed tonight. But we just keep going. And I think that's what people admire so much about Americans. And I'm damn proud.

Me too. I still wish people would use their hands from time to time, but you know what? I'm really getting to like this game.

This is pure, 100% Klavan bait.

Klavan, what do you say to this? Still hate soccer? Or were you visited by three ghosts last night?

Meh.

I double-dog-dared Jonah to post these soccer-related clips at The Corner earlier today. *Nobody* can turn down a double-dog-dare:

Did anyone else notice the Algerian fan draping an Algerian colored sash around Bill Clinton's neck right after the end of the game?

A special edition of EyeTV 3.4 software is available during the 2010 FIFA World Cup that offers a new feature called the "Vuvuzela Filter". This filter gives you the option to dampen the buzz of vuvuzela horns in the stadium during live TV broadcasts; it can be quickly switched on and off at any time during the game. To use the filter, control click to bring up the contextual menu in EyeTV.
Click here for a quick demonstration of the Vuvuzela Filter in action.

Of course the other effect of Donovan's beautiful goal is that England now face Germany, and if the beat them, most likely Argentina. If they beat them, then most likely Brazil. This is not going to happen. The USA, by contrast, now have a less challenging route towards the final.

Good luck to them (uttered between clenched teeth!)

You know, I *did* notice that. And I said to my wife something like "Even people who hate Bill don't think he's a jerk." Then I wondered if Obama's critics tend to hate him less than they hated Bill, but think Obama's a bigger jerk.
