Claire, the code of conduct is in hereby in abeyance over Osama bin Laden's consignment to the fiery furnace.
I now return you to our unscheduled but welcome national celebration.

Actually, it left out "dirty" and "rotten" before "bastard"...

We killed one old guy. That will not end Islamic terrorism. Hamas and Hezbollah are still on the borders of Israel. And the Muslim Brotherhood is on the rise in Egypt.
The most frightening thing is that he was hiding almost in the open, obviously protected by the Pakistan government.
I find it difficult to celebrate. Just more evidence that we have no friends in that part of the world.

I find that my reaction to being over the moon about the death of Bin Laden is undercut. On the one hand I'm glad that President George Bush's "wanted dead or alive" has been realized. But I also know that the 911 families and the first responders that ran towards the Twin Towers are re experiencing that terrible day. My heart goes out to them.

Leave it to the NYP to put the matter succinctly and clearly.

So the administration is reluctant to release "gruesome" pictures of Osama. Yeah. Whatever. This is a nation so fascinated by gruesome that it has three versions of CSI on the major network that has also ran "Touched by an Angel." I think we'd all like to see the pics.

So much for the myth of the ascetic mountain warrior, who it turns out was living large in a Pakistani version of the O.C., gated community, housewives and all. Picture this: OBL comes padding out of the hot tub/pool room in a fluffy bathrobe and bunny slippers, chomping on a Big Mac; he refuses to share his fries, and gets his brainpan roto-rootered with a 9mm Happy Meal - on the house - courtesy of the US Navy ... makes any good American want to stand in salute and sing “Anchors Aweigh.”
After thought: His was a similar ending to Che’s, who also met his end craven and cowardly. Unlike Che (one dares to hope) OBL will be lacking for domestic academic stooges to keep the myth alive among the vulnerable and stupid, although one hesitates to underestimate the sandaled graybeards at the likes of Columbia U.
God bless America, and our SEALs.
