Watch Democrats Boo God, Jerusalem
So we've discussed how the Democratic Party had removed any mention of God in its platform. It had also removed any mention of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Neither of these omissions sat well with parts of the party and so there was a move when the convention opened tonight to put them back in. Easy peasy, right?
All it took was a simple 2/3 vote in the affirmative to get those references back in. Except when Convention Chair (and Los Angeles Mayor) Antonio Villaraigosa asked for people to vote, it was split down the middle at best. In my own view, neither side had a clear majority. Others, including those who were in the hall, say the "no" voters had a majority. No one thinks that Villaraigosa's opinion -- that the ayes had 2/3 majority -- is based in fact.
Anyway, he takes a vote multiple times, ignores the advice of a woman who explains to him that he can't force the vote, and says the "ayes" have it. And the crowd boos.
You can watch for yourself here:
I'm not sure if they were booing God, Jerusalem, Villaraigosa's violation of the democratic process or some combination therein. But that's not going to make for a pretty campaign commercial.

I saw that expression (Antonio Villaraigosa's) before. It was also on the face of Nicolae Ceaucescu in 1989.

Re: Watch Democrats Boo God, Jerusalem
Are they really that out of touch? Maybe I just live in my bubble in central Florida, where people are respectful, support our allies and don't refer to opposing party members as Nazis. I didn't realize how much this might touch on some sensitive areas, after all we have been called murderers and liars, but Yid with a Lid truly took offense. He has evidence on his site about real handiwork of Nazis, that he wants tweeted to the offending members of the Democratic party. His photos are really moving. The Democrats just throw out these words without considering some of horror people suffered, how thoughtless.

Re: Watch Democrats Boo God, Jerusalem
So they've mentioned God in the platform. But are they for or against Him?
I think we now know where at least 50 percent of Democrats are on Israel. They are not friends. And Debbie W-S thinks it's the Republicans who are causing Israel problems.

He failed the bar exam 4 times. Anyway, he’s an incompetent mayor, we can’t expect him to manage the convention well.

I don't know why anyone thought it didn't pass on a 2/3rds vote. Why, even the text on the Teleprompter knew it had passed.
BTW, I know I should spell it TelePrOmPtEr, or something like that, but I'm done with that.

I am utterly gobsmacked by this whole debacle. I've had the creepy crawlies for months now, what with the "bear wrestling Dear Leader" photography, the groupies, bypassing Congress and the like. But this? It's undeniable evidence that the Democrats have truly abandoned anything resembling democracy.

I disagree only with your last statement. I think this will make a very pretty campaign commercial.

Re: Watch Democrats Boo God, Jerusalem
In the good old days, in the hour before the amendment question was brought up, delegates who were union members would have taken seats between and behind delegates with any identifying characteristics (buttons, particular locales like Dearborn and Santa Monica and Cambridge). Once the question was called and the votes of the 'yeas' were solicited, those union delegates would have stood and shouted "YES" at the tops of their lungs. And as they sat and the votes of the 'nays' were solicited, those union delegates would have placed their hands on the shoulders of the delegates who they'd seen not to have voted yes. A gentle squeeze would have told anyone preparing to say "no" to think better of it.
There's just no party discipline anymore.

In the Democratic Party when they find themselves in a hole they throw away the shovel and start using a backhoe.

I don't think there is any question that the "boos" were *only* for the judgment that the motion had passed. Naturally, you can defend your interpretation that it could have been a mixture, but that means anyone else can defend an opinion that you are lying about what happened. I would suggest that you leave the Dems with less of a case that they are sure to try to make. This should be a clear win for our side. Exaggeration could lead to a 50/50 impression on the public. "GOP lies again!" Change the topic from a winner for us to a "Yes you did!", "No I didn't".
And there is a contradiction between your bold headline and your equivocal "I'm not sure . . .".
"Half of Dems shout down including God in platform" matches what you wrote and the video evidence. Aaaargh! Actually, taking my devil's advocacy all the way, since two propositions were voted on simultaneously, it's impossible to know what proportion those voting "No" were motivated by.

OK, taking off my 200-word priss hat, and putting on my 'Let's Win At All Costs but Without Shooting Ourselves in the Foot' Hat } Here is the incontrovertible GOP ad I would suggest - - -
1. Show what was voted on (both planks at the same time)
2. Show the "Yay!" votes at least once.
3. Show the "No!" votes as many times as you want.
4. Show Villar deeming the proposition to have passed
5. Depict the "Boos" to highlight a theme of corruption, not "booing God".
6. See Anderson Cooper make every Dem guest on his show watch the ad and not let them call it a lie or exaggeration.

Re: Watch Democrats Boo God, Jerusalem
I take cheer in the fact that once again, they just can't help themselves and they are letting the mask fall away and the country is getting to see the REAL Democratic party. The last time this happened in the 1970's they so polluted the term "Liberal" that to this day they must run from it like garlic to a vampire. It's going to be very hard for them to return to the "Maskirovka" that they are just a bunch of middle of the road, reasonable, patriotic, God fearing Americans.

Re: Watch Democrats Boo God, Jerusalem
You know, there have been realigning elections before--perhaps in this one the perception of the "party of stupid" will be realigned.
However could the party elders within the DNC ever have been so stupid as to unmask the nihilism at the heart of some of their agenda?
