So we've discussed how the Democratic Party had removed any mention of God in its platform. It had also removed any mention of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Neither of these omissions sat well with parts of the party and so there was a move when the convention opened tonight to put them back in. Easy peasy, right?

All it took was a simple 2/3 vote in the affirmative to get those references back in. Except when Convention Chair (and Los Angeles Mayor) Antonio Villaraigosa asked for people to vote, it was split down the middle at best. In my own view, neither side had a clear majority. Others, including those who were in the hall, say the "no" voters had a majority. No one thinks that Villaraigosa's opinion -- that the ayes had 2/3 majority -- is based in fact.

Anyway, he takes a vote multiple times, ignores the advice of a woman who explains to him that he can't force the vote, and says the "ayes" have it. And the crowd boos.

You can watch for yourself here:

I'm not sure if they were booing God, Jerusalem, Villaraigosa's violation of the democratic process or some combination therein. But that's not going to make for a pretty campaign commercial.

The mayor must not be a lawyer.  If he is, he's not a very good one.

He asked the question, but did no prep in making sure he'd get the answer he expected.  Is he really that dim?  Anglenos, please.  I gotta know.

So, as the chairman of the platform committee, was "ordained minister" Strickland the one that took these planks out in the first place?

I'll give him this, Villaraigosa seemed legitimately appalled at the response. Could it possibly be true that the Dems don't even realize what their own party has become?

What a hoot! The convention is a shambles. I presume that the mainstream media is resolutely ignoring the dispute and the boos. Am I right?

Douglas: Check your news feed... the Democrats, in a quickly assembled vote, have now restored both God and the Jerusalem planks. Can't confirm this, but I just read a report that the vote had to be called three times,  with the first two times being a deadlock between yays and nays, and when they were restored on the third vote, there were boos. Trying to confirm this now. · 0 minutes ago

Douglas, that's what the video above shows! Villaraigosa is the one who put it in the platform -- over the objection of the convention.

Good grief! I don't care what your political persuasion, what your position is; the video on this post, from C-SPAN, is (or should be) eye-popping. Just from the standpoint of Robert's Rules alone it should be so. You will only see something like this on C-SPAN. If I were a Democrat, especially a delegate in attendance during this procedure, I'd lodge a protest even if my position "won the day."

This is the Dems' rule change moment, akin to the #rncpowergrab last week.

I'll give him the benefit of a doubt that the Jerusalem issue just plain didn't come up during the discussions. The God thing is a bit harder to excuse for an "ordained minister" though.

No. I think they know exactly what they've become.

To the extent Villaraigosa looked disgusted, it was because the delegates weren't playing along in the made-for-TV spectacle to whitewash who they really are. They know these issues are losers with voters and wanted to quickly put it behind them. Their real feelings were well captured by the very loud "Nays" that seemed to me to outnumber the "Yeas."

Villar's lack of grey matter is old news, he is not the shiniest apple on the tree, more like the the Platonic form of dufus, really.

The B story to this abortion-palooza is the Dems casting a post-Obama, Rubio-killing, Latin heartthrob to put on deck, and Homeboy from San Antonio seriously drank his milkshake.

Trust history:  leftists despise God and the Judeo Christian culture and always are dilligently working to eradicate it.  As a socialist, one of Adolph Hitler's wars was against Christianity, as he  tried to paint himself into a living replacement of it for the consumption of the German people.  Socialism was deliberately created to replace Christianity by people such as Auguste Comte,  Henri de Saint-Simon and J.J. Rousseau.  They actually saw it as a religion with death being the ultimate penalty for heresy.  It is almost amusing now to watch Democrats struggle with their age old enemy, God,  while struggling to continue goosestepping for their constituents.

BTW, I edited my post because I hadn't actually SEEN the video until now. The look on the mayor's face was just stunning. I could read his mind : "Are you people really stupid enough to screw this up? Fine. I'll declare victory".

There is no way... no way that he got 2/3rds. Love how the cameras zoomed right in on "Arab Americans for Obama" too.

Just remember, his real last name is Villar, not "Villaraigosa" - which is a hybrid of his last name and his ex-wife's last name of Raigosa. Ex-wife? Yep, he cheated on her with a local Spanish weathergirl a few years ago.

All that aside, it isn't surprising to hear the boos for God and Jerusalem, but it is sad. As Prager reminds us constantly: Leftism poisons everything.

A real news reporter would uncover the story behind how these statements were initially removed and who was in charge of the reinstatement.  I will not hold my breath, though.

I guess this is why it is the "Democrat" rather than "Democratic" party.

So what happens now? Can they motion again to reverse this, or do they get to proudly say they put God back in their platform by letting the worst mayor in america supersede the wishes of their delegates?

This is exactly the way the Dems RULE when they are in power. It's why we have Obamacare as the law of the land today.

And this is the party that prides itself on "tolerance" and wants everyone to "coexist."

Irony is too mild a word. We need a stronger one.
