Had the revelations about young Barry's recreational drug habits surfaced four years ago, maybe they wouldn't have mattered.  To be sure, those details wouldn't have hurt his popularity in stoner cities like Santa Cruz, Berkeley, or San Francisco.  But it's still uncanny that it all went unremarked upon in 2008.

Mollie already highlighted Obama's old habit of "snagging joints from his buddies’ hands and shouting ‘Intercepted!’ before taking an extra hit," but BuzzFeed has published the complete User's Guide to Smoking Pot with Barack Obama based on excerpts from David Maraniss' new book.  I wonder when we'll see the President interviewed about his activity in the "Choom Gang" (choom is a verb that means "to smoke marijuna").  Specifically, I'd like to hear him tell us about his trendsetting ways:

As a member of the Choom Gang, Barry Obama was known for starting a few pot-smoking trends. The first was called "TA," short for "total absorption." To place this in the physical and political context of another young man who would grow up to be president, TA was the antithesis of Bill Clinton's claim that as a Rhodes scholar at Oxford he smoked dope but never inhaled.

Take a look at the Guide.  Maybe it'll provide inspiration for a conversation to have with your children about drugs.

Blue Oyster Cult, eh? Obama demanded more cowbell before it was cool. Not terribly interested in Obama being a youthful stoner, but the media would be if Romney had been. Pointing this out is getting to be a chore...

Maybe a young Eric Holder was there running the local police narcotics squad, and concentrating his resources on busting dangerous Pentecostals high on Jesus.

Diane, I know it's future speculation. However, are you really ready to hear

It's so nice to have a President who is such a good role model for our kids.

And a hypocrite as well.

I'd thought of that earlier too and was bemoaning the fact that we have a President who sets such a bad example for American children and adolescents in this regard.

A lot went unremarked upon by the MSM in 2008. Some of it quite disturbing. However, I'm not sure that even if any of that information would have been properly investigated it would have mattered. In 2008 Americans wanted to believe in the the myth of the Obamessiah. They drank the kool-aid willingly and wholeheartedly with the disastrous results becoming apparent only after his election.

Oh, these revelations surfaced. The PUMAs knew all about it. The media didn't care, and once Obama cheated* his way into the nomination, 90% of Hillary's voters fell into line.

*maneuvered would be a more charitable description.

They did (come out 4 years ago), and they didn't matter.  Nor will they now.

I think he's engineering the release of these details now hoping to peel votes away from Gary Johnson.

I just hope that you aren’t letting what seems obvious (even monotonous) to conservatives obscure the critical Breitbartian point here: “The left wins because it controls the narrative. The narrative is controlled by the media. The left is the media. Narrative is everything.  ... This is a civil war based upon communication."

Jerry Carroll: "But it's still uncanny that it all went unremarked upon in 2008."

What's dull and axiomatic to us is terra incognita to those whom we wish to influence.  To win elections, we have to get them angry about how little they understand due to manipulation by the mainstream media.

SNL and other comedians still do jokes about George Bush.

Can you imagine if these facts came out about a Republican.  No joke would fail to have a stoner reference.

On another point -  that he did become President will be used as evidence by those who hold that marijuana is no more dangerous to one's life than liquor.

I think it's sad that this went un-remarked until now. Given the media attacks on private conservatives who come within 10 feet of Romney.  But I' m having trouble getting "excited" about this. Another story of how the media didn't vet Obama! Another story of how the media is in the tank. I think that's how we need to use this.

If I tell this to my liberal friends about Obama, they'll just say, "well if you disqualify everyone who did pot and drove while high, we'd have no candidates."  And of course they'll say "well pot isn't really bad."

Now that I think about it, the Onion already did a pre-emptive strike on this "Obama smokes pot narrative" with that thing they did about Facebook and all the future presidents being disqualified.

But one  follow up question-- did he ever mark down "no I have not done any type of drugs?" And somoeone on Ricochet asked earlier-- what type of conversation can we expect from the President on drug usage?   Has he "evolved" on the issue? Is he still evolving?

The most important point is neither what Obama has inhaled or snorted nor his views on drug use generally. The politically significant point is why in 2008 we learned far more about VP candidate Sarah Palin's teenagers than we did about Presidential candidate Obama, including among many other things his drug taking habits.  It's about the uneven media playing field which pumps out an unending stream of distractions simply because journalists favor Leftists over conservatives.  Most Americans believe in fairness and will vote in reaction to perceived manipulation. Conservatives are at war with the main stream media whether they realize it or not. It's a war that can be won if it's understood and the battle is effectively engaged.

Penn Jillette nailed it (worth a listen, start about 40 minutes in, it's actually flagged on the podcast)

Same thing goes for George Bush and Bill Clinton for that matter. If the presidents under whose administration thousands of people are sent to prison for drug offenses had got caught themselves, and prosecuted under the laws they enforce, they wouldn't be president.

My concern is that the media did not mention it or discuss it the way they did George Bush's alcohol use.

That being said, if smoking marijuana as a youthful "lark" disqualifies someone from ever becoming President, then several whole generations of people are disqualified.

The trick is not to have anyone photograph you using it, not to brag about it in print.  Which probably will disqualify many in the Facebook generation.

I don't really care that he was a pothead in high school. But doesn't he sound like kind of a creep? He even had to bully people into taking drugs the way he wanted.Kinda like Obamacare, now that I think of it. Creepy bullies telling you how to take your drugs.
