Ventriloquist Dummies

Well, I didn't win my judicial race here in Los Angeles, but life goes on. For instance, I found this cool collection of old ventriloquist dummy photos that Lileks would probably get a kick out of, if he doesn't already have a collection that dwarfs this one.

Near my house there is a sign that reads:
Soft Touch Ministries - "Serving our Lord Jesus through the art of puppetry"
Wrong on so many levels.
(Sorry about your race.)

I like that. But the Bible verse doesn't fit the act. They should have tried Psalm 141:3 "Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! And if my lips move, don't shoot the dummy!"
Sorry to hear you ended in the loser's bracket yesterday.

Re: Ventriloquist Dummies
Well, you may have lost, but you managed to convince 107,721 people to vote for you. That's a pretty impressive accomplishment on its own. Heck, that's more than the combined total of votes for the top two candidates for mayor of San Diego. You need to run again. Anyone know how to set up a SuperPAC for Ricochet?

Move while you still can!
Re: Ventriloquist Dummies
Thanks Jim.
I did it by spending a whopping $7,500 and a staff of one, me. The winner's war chest: $450,000. I actually ended with a campaign surplus of about the same amount. That excess, (and more from Shepard Fairey Posters that keep selling is allowed by California law to go to a charity. Shepard Fairey and I are each naming one to split the proceeds.

Joe,
It is California's loss. Unfortunately, it is another among many.
Next time set up a contribution website so we can all donate. (AND TELL US.) I'm sure you will raise more than $7500. Maybe more than $450,000.
Re: Ventriloquist Dummies
Did you get it from this page? I barely made it past the first one. Psychopathic burn victims just don't spell "entertainment" to me anymore.

Re: Ventriloquist Dummies
I see the local Bar rated you as "unqualified". What, pray tell, makes one qualified to be a judge in the eyes of LACBA?

Re: Ventriloquist Dummies
That photo reminded me of a time I was doing a show at an elementary school. The company I used to work for would take stories that the children at each school had written and turn then into performances. One story we did was about little people appearing to some Australian man. So, we pulled out little Ken and Barbie dolls, propped up the top of the box that was part of the set and did a mini puppet show with the dolls. We were short an actor, so both dolls were being animated and voiced by one actor. Unfortunately, during the show, the box top snapped it's chain exposing the actor behind the box with the Ken and Barbie dolls in her hands. I don't think I'd heard more raucous laughter from the children.
