As of 4:20 pm PST, all functions are working except the following:

  1. Block quoting.  This was the only known issue going into the upgrade. Please note, though, that editing a previously block quoted post can cause the block quoted text to disappear.

If you discover others, please email support@ricochet.com.  Thanks!

I think I resolved the avatars issue.  I'm testing commenting now.  You may not be able to post content until I resolve this.

I think the main issues were cache-related.  The new platform probably uses the cache differently, and although I cleared the cache, there may have been some items that didn't get cleared correctly.  I really blew away the cache this time, manually removing files and so on.

That said, there are still some issues, and we're working on them.  However, it's looking less likely that we will need any downtime.  Still, take precautions if you are typing out a long post!

As an I.T. guy, I sympathize! Upgrades can improve things, but you always hold your breath for the unforeseen consequences of messing with something that's working.

The Logo: Known issues:

1. Embedding images and Linking not working for these browsers:

  • Chrome for Linux and Mac
  • Firefox for Mac

2. Pasting can cause the text editor to freeze

A JavaScript error related to the packing of JavaScript files may be the cause for these.  I have turned JavaScript packing off until I can get at the problem in greater detail.

Please email me at support@ricochet.com if you still experience these two problems.

I'm on a PC with Firefox and find that the numbers for switching pages in the comments don't appear to be working.

A review of the old saw that counsels leaving well enough alone might be in order.

If it ain't broke don't fix it?  ;-)

Just testing the "quote" function on PC/Firefox and it appears to work.

After a couple false starts I think things are settling down again.  The last outstanding issue I'm aware of is the one we knew at the time of the upgrade: namely, that the "blockquote" button is not available.  I will fix this likely early next week.

I don't always test my code, but when I do, I do it in production

I like post #8 by the way -->

Yes, we do test in development, but we (mostly I) don't have infinite time to test every feature on the site on every last browser out there.

And in this particular case, even if we had, we wouldn't have caught most of the problems we had today.  That's because the problems were mostly caused by the very act of rolling out the upgrade, and the changes in the system that ensued, not by any flaws in our own code.  To be more specific, it was largely a cache-related problem-- bits and pieces of content and code from the previous version still around after the system was upgraded.  After a couple of attempts, I think everything should be on the newer code.

This is the modern age my good man.

The above has now been amended to read:

"If it ain't broke, fix it until it is."

EDIT:  When I typed up this comment (but forgot to submit it), the quote boxes didn't function properly.  However, upon reloading the page and editing this post, they look to be GTG.

It appears that if you fix it long enough, you can roll all the way around the dial through broken and back up to fixed again.

Good Show.

Found another issue.

I am running Win XP SP3 and FireFox 10.0.1 with the add-ons NoScript 2.3RC2, FlashGot 1.3.8, DownThemAll! 2.0.13, and BlockSite 0.7.1.1

Everything was last updated about four hours ago, so consider it current.

All the java/flash blocking stuff is turned off for Ricochet, but none of the pop-up controls on the compose box work.

The URL button, the picture button, and the YouTube button all open their boxes properly and seem to function properly, right up until you hit submit, and then nothing happens.  Cancel seems to work OK, as does the little X in the upper right corner, but the button that finishes the task does not do anything.

Also, is there any way that we can embed pictures already hosted elsewhere (as opposed to having to upload them again to Ricochet)?  Something similar to how the VBulletin [IMG][/IMG] code works would be ideal.

I already have my own webspace that I upload all my images to, no sense in you all having to waste storage space and bandwidth to host them here too.

CoolHand, our site loads some libraries such as jquery from external domains, such as Google (not sure what domain, exactly, without looking). You might want to enable those other domains in NoScript.  Let me know if it changes.

Actually, forcing a hard reload in FireFox fixed the issue.

Google's App services are already on my white lists for exactly the reason you give.

All appears to be well now.

I'm testing the blockquote tag now.  Hopefully it will be available soon.

The blockquote tag is back!

I had to reimplement it because of the platform upgrade.  It is not supported natively by the platform, and our contractor had hacked in support on a previous version.  The hack didn't port well to the latest version of the platform, so I had to re-do it, and hopefully in a bit less hackish way.

If you can't get it to work, or don't see the big quotation mark button in your toolbar, try holding down Shift and reloading.  Let us know at support@ricochet.com if there are problems.  Thanks!
