Here are the results. Already one GOP candidate has retained his seat.

UPDATE: Make that 2 GOP wins so far. Harsdorf and Cowles.

UPDATE: 3 wins for GOP (Cowles, Harsdorf, Olsen), 2 for Dems (King, Schilling)

Darling (R) is leading 52%-48% with 79% of votes counted.

UPDATE: Darling (R) winning 54%-46% with the vote count stuck at 84% lol...

UPDATE: Althouse:

The recall effort has apparently failed to shift the majority in the Wisconsin senate.

As Alberta Darling claims victory in District 8, and the AP calls it for her, the 4th of the 6 races has gone Republican.

Here's Meade's video (edited by me) from the Capitol Square 2 hours ago, when Democrats were still hopeful...

WI-14 still won't declare Olsen (R) the winner even though 96% of the votes have already been counted. He's leading by 54-46.

Looks like the Dems are going to split the field, 3 wins and 3 losses, giving them an opportunity to take control of the senate after elections next Tuesday.

If the Democrats win (Pasch is their candidate) in Wisconsin's 8th Senate District, the Democrats will win the Wisconsin Senate majority. At least until the second round of recalls targeting two Democratic incumbents later in the month.

Pasch has a narrow lead over Darling, but the districts still to be counted appear to favor Darling.

I can't believe I just stayed up till 1 a.m. in New Hampshire anxiously awaiting the results of a Wisconsin state senate recall vote.

These are strange times.

So glad the WI Repubs came through.

Hooray for Scott Walker!

Just came from the Darling party - she's won. Latest is 54% to 46% with 84% reporting. The left is going to pout but they've lost. I worked the polls in the N.Shore/liberal area and the Dem candidate did not do nearly as well as expected.

It's a good night - we held the line.

Even if the Republicans lose the two Democrat Senate seats up for recall next Tuesday, they will still retain control of the Wisconsin Senate, thus controlling both houses of the legislature and the office of the Governor.  Considering the money and effort expended by Democrats and their sycophant union supporters, Republicans have effectively prevented Democrats from exercising virtually any control in Wisconsin state politics going forward for the next several years.

Democrats will mount a gubernatorial recall effort sometime next year when the governor has been in office for a minimum of one year.  It will be an uphill battle.  Wisconsin created more than half the jobs created in the entire nation in June.  Wisconsin has a balanced budget going forward and an improving state economy.

The greater point made from this election will be found when other states also seek to restrict public unions to only negotiating for wages, rather than the large and costly panoply of benefits they currently are contractually committed to.  This Wisconsin election is just a continuation of the political tsunami growing across the country to rein in costs and spending within the various state budgetary processes.

The Wisconsin Democrats were doing better while hiding in that Scottish bar across the state line. Anyone know how much they spent to fall short tonight?

@Sisyphus: At the very least, Unions and their friends tossed $14 million into the recall elections: http://bit.ly/nQuGQL. When compared to what the parties spent on national elections in 2010, it's pretty remarkable: http://bit.ly/2010SPENDY.

So what are the chances that we pick up either of the Democratic seats up for recall next week? My seat-of-the-pants analysis is that Dem turnout may be low since they fell short today....

Agree with everything you said, except for one point.  I would have stated it "Unions and their sycophant Democrat supporters".

Another ominous sign for the Dems if they can't carry the day in the home of Progressivism.

That's what I was wondering Matthew. If they pick off both, that's just a return to status quot. Interesting to walk through the political ramifications of that.

This is terrific... the Ohio Democratic Party is banging the union "solidarity" drum and treating this as a win. Dear Ohio Democratic Party: if you like moral victories, wait until November!

Indeed!

The Republican in La Crosse that got spanked is in a big time Democrat district, and the other Republican lost narrowly because he has a 24 year old mistress. Just as I expected.

This is what democracy looks like!

It's a shame that the Republicans didn't win all 6 special elections. That shows that there is much more work to do to expel the Democrat Party from American civic life.

The next step is to win both special elections next week. That will completely neuter this latest effort by organized labor and the Democrats to hijack Wisconsin government.

But more important is to keep the pressure on the Democrat/union cabal. They will be disappointed by their defeats, but unless they are damaged they will keep on trying to overturn legitimate elections by whatever means they can. After all, ducking someone's punch does not dissuade that person from throwing another, but knocking his teeth out does.

Republicans must eliminate - nationwide - all union dues check-offs from employee paychecks. If people want to pay dues a union, like a cable company, insurance company or bank, should have to send the employee a monthly bill and then process whatever checks the employees voluntarily send. The government should not be a facilitator with union activity.

Take the money away from the unions and watch how quickly they will stop "punching" at Republican and conservative groups and candidates.
