Update on the Kabul Inter-Continental Hotel Attack

Btw, CNN now reporting 18 ppl dead and of course the gunfight went on till a NATO helicopter flew in and shot the insurgents dead on the roof of the hotel. Security for Kabul has been passed onto the Afghans since last year but there's clearly not much basis for this. The majority of those killed appear to be Afghans and--ironically--the attackers were targeting a Pak-Afgh-US conference on... transition.
By the way, here's a story for CNN readers who have perhaps just now been given their first hint that the Taliban might not have the most enlightened perspective on, say, education for girls:
Kabul -- Insurgents tricked an 8-year-old girl in a remote area of central Afghanistan into carrying a bomb wrapped in a cloth and then detonated the device remotely when she was close to a police vehicle, Afghan authorities said Sunday.
Only the girl was killed in the blast in the Char Chino district of Uruzgan province, said Fazal Ahmad Shirzad, the police chief.

Israel sent a message to Syrian President Bashar Assad in recent days, warning him that if he started a war with the Jewish state in order to divert attention from domestic problems, Israel will target him personally, Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, the personal warning was sent through Turkey following intelligence reports of unusual Syrian troop movements, including the moving of long-range ballistic missiles that could be used to target Israel."
