Unscheduled Downtime

A combination of unfortunate events led to an 8-hour site outage, starting at about 5 pm Pacific. Teeth gnashing on three continents helped get the site back up a short while ago. The root cause has been identified, and is being worked on.
Please accept our sincere apologies for the disruption.

Re: Unscheduled Downtime
Oh Worthy Logo (*), you have my sympathy. It is many years since I had operational responsibility for any IT infrastructure or system (I just advise and plan them for others now), but I well recall the entrail-freezing horror as things go south, and the phone calls start coming in from unreasonable consumers of your services. Good luck with your root cause analysis and resolution. And in the mean time, thank you for the careful attention to this wonderful environment.
(* I loved the vocative case when learning Latin - the idea of addressing a table - O Mensa - is too good).

Gnashing of teeth, tearing of hair (well, maybe not tearing), beating of breast. I went to bed without reading Ricochet. It made me sad. Hurray for the mighty Logo and BSA and interns and contributors and everyone who put Humpty together again.

Do hash table brownies make you dizzy if they are only temporary?

I thought Miss Ellis published a post on "boredom," then pulled the plug on The Joint to prove a point.
Well, point proven.
