This week on Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson, Hoover fellow Shelby Steele and the Weekly Standard's Bill Kristol discuss the elections, what Romney needs to do to keep the lead, and Steele and Kristol give the U.S. a little tough love.

Finally, Yeti, Shelby Steele has agreed to grace us with his presence and commentary. I am thrilled.

I have read three of his books, but the one I'd love to comment on is : White Guilt-  particularly this passage noted on pages 66-67:

"Yet just beyond the window of his classroom, on the pockmarked basketball court with the netless hoop, another weather pattern prevails. On that court almost nothing is forgiven, and he will be "blamed" and held entirely responsible for all his deficiencies. And all through the torpor of a day structured to spare his feelings around reading, writing, and arithmetic, he will long to be on the other side of that window, where everything is asked of him."

This is truly one of the greatest passages I have ever read re: socio/economic/racial issues.

"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers."  Thank you, Peter, for a job well done.  I'm starting to feel (dare I say it?) optimistic!

If you're optimistic, Paules, then so am I.
