Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson: Pat Sajak
Over the years, Uncommon Knowledge, has hosted countless academics with multiple degrees. This week, our guest is a man of letters of a different sort. You've heard him on the podcasts, you've read his posts on Ricochet, now get to know the man behind the "Wheel." Pat Sajak discusses how he got his start in the business, what it's like to be a conservative in Hollywood, and reveals the secret as to whether or not Vanna actually gets to keep those dresses.

Oh Jeez, Pat Sajak's an open conservative? My liberal dad was a huge fan, he passed away in 1989 and thankfully didn't know this.
He must have great make-up people because the pressure to conform doesn't show. We think it's all stars at parties and the like, but mostly they're dealing with production people, deeply union and also very liberal. Like Eastwood, this guy keeps his cool.

"Permanent protesting class" -- Pat Sajak
I really enjoyed this interview. If this middle American ever ran into Pat, he'd buy him a beer.

Turns out that Adrian Cronauer's a Republican, too.

This guy is really down to earth. I can see why Pete was hinting at public office. Sajak is like the anti-Obama (well, ok, he did compare him to Reagan).

If we do the national meet up Pat simply has to be there.

Re: Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson: Pat Sajak
Mr. Robinson is wrong about one thing. Beside Hillsdale and Grove City colleges, Christendom College of Front Royal, VA, does not accept any Federal funding for itself or its students.

Re: Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson: Pat Sajak
No, No No, I'm surprised at you both, Joe McCarthy had NOTHING to do with the blacklist. Hollywood 10 - 1947, Joe McCarthy was just entering the Senate , his wheeling speech - beginning the 'McCarthy Era' was Feb 1950. Alger Hiss was identified by Whittaker Chambers in 1948. The left, having successfully smeared McCarthy then decided retroactively to smear everyone who was anti- communist with the same brush because it worked. There WERE communists in the State Department and Hollywood and Alger Hiss WAS a spy. Don't buy the lefts talking point that it was all unfair accusation.

Other than that, Pat and I are the same age with similar experiences in the 60's , I joined the Navy in Richie Cunningham's Happy Days and got out wondering why those morons were wallowing in the mud at Woodstock. I first saw the press unfairness in 1960 and never trusted them thereafter.

Re: Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson: Pat Sajak
You're right. If someone in Hollywood (writer, director, actor) was blacklisted, it was the studio heads that did it--not the government. The studio heads were more afraid of the public. And, wealthy studio heads needed little encouragement to be suspicious of socialism. Capitalism was working just fine for them.

Thanks Mr Robinson, my non-English speaking 84 year old mother and her friends in Singapore love Mr Sajak.

Re: Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson: Pat Sajak
Apropos of nothing, but I love it when people claim they remember watching the McCarthy hearings on television.
McCarthy was a senator.
The televised hearings were from the House Committee on Unamerican Activities.
That's the House of Representatives, people, not the Senate.

Oh, and big props to Peter for mentioning my alma mater, Grove City College. Class of '93--wow, has it been that long?

Great interview.
Slightly off topic, but does anyone else watch these just to see Peter contort himself when asking questions?
