Next week on Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson, a provocative interview with Texas Governor Rick Perry, recorded in front of an audience at The Texas Public Policy Foundation in Austin. Here's a short preview:

Okay, I'll put up the first comment.

This isn't the man we saw stumble in the presidential debates.  This is a man who is relaxed, articulate and firm in his convictions.  As you see here--and as you'll see at greater length when the full interview goes up--Rick Perry can be mighty impressive.

Now you can see why I thought he was sand bagging in the first couple of debates.

And Club Ricochet was less than 20 ft. from the Two of Them thanks to the Mighty Blue Yeti.

The "live" aspect comes across terrific. Perhaps more should be "taped in front of a live audience."

I recall hearing Ed Morrissey of Hot Gas [sic], saying he thought Gov. Perry was distracted by the pain of standing long hours so soon after back surgery. Turns out he was dulled by the pain medication he was taking, and it's a shame, he is indeed impressive (and genial) when he's on his game.

I supported Gov. Perry from the start for president and the reality is that he didn't perform when he needed to in the primaries. It is episodes like this that make me believe he will make an outstanding president still.

Great clip, thanks for sharing.

As I recall he did a bad job on all the debates. Could it be more a case of just not being good at debating?

I don't recall him being outstanding in debates when running for governor.

Some people just aren't good at it. (Warning touchy freely alert!) Everyone has different talents.

I can't write, but I can get up and talk to people about pretty much anything. It helps if I know something about the subject...but its not strictly necessary.

re: good/bad debating:

Could be.  Just as there are champion debaters who might not make the best candidate <cough, newt, cough>

My sister met Perry in a meeting and was awed by his presence. Along the same lines, the mother of a childhood friend who had met Nixon had a similar experience.

Ahem! At least he's a thinker...unlike a certain former Mass. governor I could mention.

Dash, everyone in Texas that has had the pleasure of meeting him personally in small groups all say the exact same thing. I don't think he did himself any favors by insulating himself with a nearly 100% Texan, Austin based staff and I don't think we will see nearly as many primary debates next time. I hope he runs again. Or he would make a great first President of the Republic of Texas.

God, what this country needs, desperately, is a whole lot more people like Rick Perry.  That man really gets it.

Everything I wrote defending Perry rings as true today as it did then. His statement regarding the ObamaTax ruling is what voters need to hear.

John Roberts is a thinker and look where that got us.

I don't want to relive the primaries, here. Mitt's my guy now, come hell or high water and I withhold any criticism of the man or his platform until Nov. 7. He has his finger to the wind, you say? Don't care. I have my fingers in my ears and I'm saying "la-la-la".
I'm a veritble Romney zombie now because our enemy is implacable and will steal, lie and cheat to achieve its goal, cannot be shamed nor reasoned with and so must be defeated soundly, without mercy, taking no quarter.

We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in Wisconsin, in Indiana and Pennsylvania; We shall fight on the benches; we shall fight for our seats. We shall fight for both houses. We shall never surrender. Never give in, never, never, never...
