The Taliban is claiming credit for a coordinated attack throughout Kabul, including hits on NATO headquarters there and the U.S. Embassy.

Comprehensive reports are difficult to come by but CNN and The Telegraph have live updates.

I wonder if this will have any effect on our removal of ground troops from the country.

Prayers for all who are there.  My cousin, who is, I think, a navy attaché, might be among them.  I know he's in Kabul.  Today is the tenth anniversary of his father and namesake, my uncle's, death.

You would think that they would bide their time until we left. Instead, in a blatant show of arrogance, they do this. Even Moqtada al Sadr announced a cessation.

Sad thing is that they know we won't respond properly. There is a complete history and protocol here that would show us the proper response, and if we had a proper president then we would be giving better than we got. Instead, we are facilitating the opening of a Taliban office in another country. Baffling, astounding, and confoundingly stupid.
