Cain

For those of you who are actually out living your lives on a Saturday, a quick news break:

  • Herman Cain just wrapped up a press conference in Atlanta announcing that he is suspending (read: ending) his presidential campaign.
  • Cain continues to deny all allegations of personal impropriety. He said that he was at peace with God, his family, and his wife Gloria, who was on stage with him and seemed vehemently supportive of him rather than scorned.
  • Cain said he does not plan to leave the public stage, but is instead starting an organization focused on policy solutions, through which he will keep up his role as a political advocate.
  • The next place this story goes -- Cain mentioned in the coda that he will be issuing an endorsement in the presidential race shortly.

Now back to your regularly scheduled weekend.

The circus maximus will be smaller now though not much diminished.  Good riddance, I say.

Like myself and the current occupant of the White House, we are not sufficiently talented to adequately fill the position of President of the United States.

Smart people, might easily weigh the cost/benefit and conclude the job of getting elected carries too high a price.

Human beings need not apply. Only politicians allowed. Any leadership tendencies will be suppressed.

They are putting one more notch in their lipstick case over at Journo-List.

Here's the copy for the new ad:  "Wanted - Republicans to run for office.  Only canonized saints recognized by the Holy See need apply."

I thought nothing of his alleged impropriety. It sounded like a bunch of fame-seekers accusing him. But that said, his incompetence on foreign affairs was enough to turn me away.

One wonders how much of other people's money such people waste before quitting. There are no refunds on campaign donations.

Well, I've said before that I worry the conservative vote would be split as it was in 2008, enabling the so-called "moderate" to win the primaries. This will help to avoid that.

My guess is that this will help Perry and Bachmann most.

Yeah...ok.

Why doesn't Herman Cain just run as a Democrat? Poof! What scandal?

From Cain? I think his endorsement is more likely to go to Gingrich than to "good hair".

and worse then a terrorist.....

Presidential nomination applications really need to include this question: "Are you having, or have you ever had, an extramarital affair with someone who is disgruntled with you, or who may gain financial advantage by revealing this information to the public?"

I recommend that Herman Cain take his political talents and put them to good use by running for either mayor of a majority black city in his home state of Georgia or congressman in a minority-majority Georgia House district.

He should preach the message of conservatism to those who most need to hear it from one of their own. He should attack the Democrat plantation on the steps of the manor house, not from safely afar. Win or lose, Cain will serve America and American blacks best by following that route.

Democrats understand this. Compare two New Jerseyans, Steve Forbes to Jon Corzine. The good man decided to aim for the top, the Presidency, as his first elective office, instead of doing what the crook did, which was to buy a Senate seat and then buy a governorship.

Who had the greater impact on the lives of New Jerseyans? Who had the greater impact on the US tax code, budget, regulatory state and judiciary?

The crook, because he aimed for what he could achieve.

Whichever Republican wins the White House, I think Cain should be appointed the next ambassador to Uz-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan.

Perry is still in the race, folks.  I think it's time for a Perry reexamination / upswing.

I wish Mr. Cain the best, and hope that the truth comes out.  If he's innocent and can prove it, I hope he can expose, embarrass, and sue the living daylights out of all these people.  Not for the money's sake, but for the sake of stopping this line of attack in the future.

The consistency with which Obama opponents have been dispatched through unsupported allegations of sexual impropriety is certainly a credit to the Chicago machine.
