UK/KU -- I'm OK, RU?
I lost my heart for the NCAA basketball tournament last night after Louisville and Ohio State lost. Just being honest.
I wasn't that passionate about any one team, but I did want to see the postgame handshake between Rick Pitino and John Calipari had Kentucky lost. (The pregame shake seemed a little frosty to me.) Also, Louisville dispatched my beloved alma mater Davidson in Round 1, and I think perhaps I might have felt a bit better about that had Louisville gone on to actually become the Best Team in the Nation. It takes the sting out of a loss somehow to be able to tell yourself, "Well, they are the best, and we did keep it tight ..." But Coach Cal's favored UK team did, indeed, vanquish Louisville. Sigh.
In Game 2, I was pulling for Ohio State for the simple reason that this is a state school team with 6 roster players hailing from in-state. That's pretty rare. The Kentucky roster has 4 from the home state, Louisville had 3, and Kansas enters tomorrow's national championship with 2 players from in-state.
In our Ricochet pool, it looks like it will be a battle to the finish between members Kofola and Bill Waldron. Kofola takes it if Kansas wins while Mr. Waldron reigns if Kentucky prevails. (Kennedy Smith will certainly correct me here or on the member feed if I'm wrong about this.) I'm sure these two members left standing will be sweating out the next 24 hours; I know they both really want their T-shirt. Or mug. Or beer cozy. Can't remember what the swag is this year, but it's sure to be hip. Congrats, gentlemen!

Standfast: Davidson, eh? What took you there?
UK v KU, the palindrone bowl?
On paper, it should be UK, but I have a feeling ... · 3 hours ago
I agree with your gut feeling, too!
My brother went to Davidson, and I followed him. He chose it out of a college book in which it explained about the free campus laundry service. Very appealing to a 17YO boy.
And, finally, thanks for allowing me to link to one of my fave songs/performances:

A good friend from my high school days in NC went to Davidson. He and I were big NC State fans (his dad was an alum), and both hated Carolina. Sadly, he sold out and went to Chapel Hill to law school. Alas, he probably still votes for Demorcrats too.

Perhaps not a good metric. A quick Google check shows that Ohio has about four times the population of Kansas. It would be tough for Kansas to compete using only local talent. · 2 hours ago
Hmm. OK, but wouldn't that also mean that there are many more schools in Ohio to pull that talent? · 40 minutes ago
Good point.

On the other hand there is also (PC ALERT!) the fact that Ohio has about twice the percentage of African Americans. White men can't jump.

No offense taken. No MU fans in this house. My only comments about tonight's game is that KU better not wait until after the half to bring it and it sure would be nice if their free throw shots were above average.
