huntsman-china

From Daniel Drezner's blog at ForeignPolicy.com:

... I'd expect decent odds that Huntsman would be the secretary of state in any incoming GOP administration (quick, name me an alternate candidate with sufficient gravitas). Even if he's a sideshow to the current GOP nomination, he wouldn't be if a Republican won in 2012.

Personally, I want no business with any potential Republican president willing to install Huntsman at Foggy Bottom (the first rule of effectively managing the State Department is not to do it with a company man). But I turn it over to you, the Ricochetoise. Who should be the next GOP president's pick to represent America abroad?

John Bolton has forgotten more about foreign policy than Huntsman has ever known. Elliott Abrams, Michael Rubin, as well.  We could even bring Henry K. out of retirement.

So I take it that all the John Bolton fans are eager for more wars of choice?

John Bolton or Senator Mike Lee (on Foreign Relations).  Anyone who would refuse to pander to Syria or Iran.

Do you mean more wars where our President either seeks Congressional approval ahead of time or notifies them in a timely manner and seeks an authorization (or declaration of war) within 60 days?

By choice do you mean a choice where our national interest is at stake, or where it blatantly goes against our national interest?

I would like someone who knows that Iran represents an existential threat to Israel and the U.S, that Syria is a thuggish state, and that the North Koreans are insane.

Conor:  Who would you suggest?

Obviously, John Bolton - hopefully there will be enough Republican senators for him to be confirmed.

Joseph C. Wilson XIV and Valerie Plame as DNI as long as Scooter Libby is VP
