Re: Two Americas
Unless they find dismembered corpses in his freezer I would say Mr. Edwards has long since hit bottom. Details such as this are merely for those who enjoy slowing down on the freeway in order to examine car crashes.

The mind boggles with the alternate history possibilities..
Re: Two Americas
Just remember that many people among us thought it wise to put him one heartbeat away from the presidency.

Re: Two Americas
Yeah. There were people who liked him. I like that I'm vindicated for sensing what a slime ball he was early on.
I mean, you must be a piece of [poop] if your wife goes out of her way to record testimony damning you on her deathbed.

Two Americas: The people who can hire million-dollar lawyers to cover their indiscretions, and those who can't.
Re: Two Americas
In related news, John Edwards owes us a couple million dollars.

Re: Two Americas
Speaking for the crowd deficient in follicles, we once again have evidence that there is no connection between great hair and moral rectitude. Indeed, perhaps the opposite.
Want a good husband? Go for the bald guy. (He'll spend a lot less time staring admiringly at himself in the mirror).

Re: Two Americas
It's funny you mention the 'opposite' being true. Look at a complete photographic list of Russian leaders, you'll notice that they alternate bald/hairy back for quite a long time. Apparently the Russian's take it quite seriously.

You know who else doesn't spend a lot of time in front of mirrors? Vampires.
Ann Althouse pointed that out today.

Re: Two Americas
Rumor has it that Jack Nicholson is among those who do not pay for escorts. He brings them home, but does not pay.

In a similar vein, I have tried to convince women to go for ugly men, without much success so far, but I keep trying.

Re: Two Americas
Foxman, if you don't ask them all you never find the one who is willing. Fight the good fight.
Johnny boy is pond scum trial lawyer parasitic toxic waste who made his millions through lies and extortion. I remember his courtroom drama channeling a dead child and crying to the jury as the spirit spoke through him. He is a man who I am currently unable to forgive because he will lie and swindle his way to the grave like all pathological personalities of his ilk.

Sadly, his paying for a prostitute actually improves my opinion of him.

Why are more lawyers not charged with obstruction of justice? Isn't that part of the job description?

Re: Two Americas
You know, while I think of prostitution as a scourge on the family, I think I agree that in Edwards' case, engaging a prostitute rather than preying on an amateur was the moral thing to do, as in the Pope's hypothetical about a male prostitute being right to use a condom. Since I don't imagine he had any problems smooth talking women into bed, part of me thinks that this was a moral choice on his part, rather than an amoral one with positive consequences, although it may simply have been a matter of campaign trail discretion.
The last bit, by the way, is what really makes the story for me; he couldn't even button up his flies for the length of his political campaign. If only the Obama and Clinton campaigns had imploded in time! We'd have had McCain constrained by a conservative congress elected in a landslide!

@Foxman: I suggest adding money to the equation. I have noticed that many women’s standards on a man’s looks lower when the amount of money spent on them increases. Of course you have to do this carefully or you could end up in Edwards’s situation.
