Sarah Palin reacts to the Tucson shooting:

And the left reacts to Sarah Palin: The Daily Caller reports,

A video on YouTube showcases dozens of tweets, sent in the aftermath of Saturday’s Arizona massacre, that call for the death of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Some of the Tweeters wish Palin would die of cancer, while others advocate for her assassination.

“My hatred for Sarah Palin continues to grow. I think this woman should be assassinated,” said one person. “Sarah Palin should be shot for her encouragement of fanaticism against Democrats,” says another.

Warning: the video I'm linking to, which the news report cites, contains foul language and shows dozens of twitter users calling for Palin's death.

Yeah, it's almost like by falsely blaming her for Tucson, they want to see her bleed, they want to see some violence done to her. I wonder if there's a name for that?

How tragically absurd to decry hate, violence and murder by hatefully issuing a call for....violence and murder.

I recommend reading some of Elias Canetti's masterpiece, Crowds and Power, to see what people are capable of when given the cloak of anonymity of a group, which one can liken to the same identification as a twitter broadcast. But remember in order to be heard tweeting, one must have dedicated followers.

Has the Daily Caller partnered with Ricochet?  It's a fantastic journalistic creation; the Center-Right Archipelago will save US(A).

We do have a partnership of sorts.  On occasion, you'll find one of their stories here on our main feed or on our headlines page.  Similarly, you may spot one of our posts in their pages (today they're featuring Troy Senik's post on the best of the inaugural addresses).  But aside from that, they're a pretty great news site, so we find ourselves linking to them pretty frequently.

By blaming her for Tucson, they want to define her as less than a person, a creature unfit to live.  It's a lot like when Jew-hating medieval villagers made up stories about Jews harvesting the blood of Christian children for evil rituals, thus justifying their own murder of Jews.  I think there's a name for that... it's on the tip of my tongue....

Yes, some primordial urge. I think there is a name for it: vengeance, right? They remind me of Madame Defarge from A Tale of Two Cities: they can't be reasoned with and want to see blood.

I can certainly think of a few choice names for those making such threats.

Emily Esfahani Smith, Ed.

Ezra Klein said of Palin and her video: "there was real opportunity in this tragedy for Sarah Palin to look like a leader. I don't think anyone, left of right, thinks she has."

Meanwhile, Howard Kurtz said that "There was some sympathy for Palin over being tied to shooting and she chose to go inflammatory. Blood libel has special resonance for Jews."

(Both Klein and Kurtz' remarks come via Twitter).

Ezra Klein says the Constitution is too hard to understand because it is an old, groady document that is "confusing because it was written more than a hundred years ago."

And leftists have the unmitigated nerve to call Palin stupid.

This Sarah obsession thing is going to backfire on the left.  They are galvanizing what has been mild antipathy or perhaps indifference on the right into a backlash against unjust persecution.

Not to be a center-right blogospheric wet blanket, but is this whole blame Palin qua Mistress of the Conservatives... is this getting any serious place in the normal world?

What a disgusting display of hatred and hypocrisy. The Left has managed to create this scandal and scapegoat Sarah Palin. How interesting it was to see in todays WashPo Charles Krauthammer use a Freudian concept to explain how our political rhetoric is a sign of our progress, not evidence of our imperfections. Sadly it seems the hatred demonstrated by those who wish Palin harm may blind them to both the irony of Krauthammers Freudian allusion and the bankrupt nature of their "progressive" past

What on earth are these people thinking?  Do they have no clue that human resources departments check out candidates' social network history these days?

Or do they just have no interest in employment at all?

Emily, thank you for posting the Palin video. I was impressed by her simultaneous passion and self-restraint.

Uh... in some industries, such comments would be considered a feather in one's cap...

Palin took it so seriously that she felt the need to respond.

Emily Esfahani Smith, Ed.

Here's Charles Krauthammer's reaction to Palin's speech: “I found her speech unobjectionable, unremarkable but unnecessary.”
