Re: Turkey's Feel-Good Foreign Policy
Claire, to the Ambassador's remark: "that in this region, two plus two doesn’t always equal four. Sometimes it equals six, sometimes ten. You cannot hope to understand this region unless you grasp this.”
My primary study partner in college, way back in 1979, hailed from Tehran. She was unable to take a true/false or multiple choice exam. She simply couldn't see anything in a clear-cut way. One of our teachers understood, and gave her the opportunity to take all the tests orally. She did, and brilliantly.
Of course, she also thought the US was pretty broken (recall that this is was the time of President Carter and the Khomeini revolution). When I asked her where she would prefer to live, she promptly suggested... Greece.
And yes, she still resides in the US (of course!). And yes, I realize Iran is not Turkey.
As you and Peter continue work on your speech regarding Israel and anti-Semitism, I trust you'll remember that logic has no bearing for many the listeners.
