This is the second Iranian plane they've forced to land in Diyarbakir in this past week.

Turkey says it has seized the cargo of an Iranian plane bound for Syria because the shipment violated U.N. sanctions.

The Foreign Ministry did not disclose the content of the seizure, but the U.N. sanctions against Iran ban the export of arms and prohibit nuclear enrichment.

Turkish media said Wednesday the plane was carrying light weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket launchers and mortars.

Various reports are talking about search squads trained to detect chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear materials. AFP is reporting that Turkish fighter planes were on standby in case the plane--a civilian Ilyushin--refused to comply. I've also seen reports that the crew were arrested.

The first intercept was called a "mysterious incident."

Two is called "a pattern."

Good for Turkey.  Sanctions are sanctions.

We're bombing Libya and playing footsie with Iran. Anyone out there got any other bright foreign policy ideas?

The whole world seems to have bright foreign policy ideas. None of them seem to work.

The first article reports the Turkish government says it routinely searches Iranian cargo planes flying over Turkey.

Assuming this is true (maybe not a good assumption), I'm guessing finding weapons and having CBRN search teams on standby is a new development.

I'm wondering why Iran thinks it might get away with this.

Bribe 'em, bomb 'em, or nuke 'em, in that order and proceeding down the list until something works.

Iran likes to probe, especially at times like this. It's been running lots of stuff up the flagpole this month to see what salutes.
