From Politico:

First lady Michelle Obama was in Dallas Friday to judge a Top Chef cooking competition as part of her three-day Let's Move national tour. Obama joined White House chef Sam Kass and "Top Chef" host Tom Colicchio as judges in a televised competition that paired child sous-chefs with professional chefs.

... At the end of the 30 minute competition, the three chefs-student teams produced whole wheat turkey tacos, homemade applesauce and an arugula, carrot and avocado salad. The three judges were unable to declare a winner, declaring that all three teams won.

No one loses. Everyone gets arugula. I'm in hell.

“Anybody gone into Whole Foods lately and see what they charge for arugula?” he asked. Back in 2007 in Adel, Iowa.

A town that probably calls sushi "bait".

They have short memories. We used arugula before to tag them as out of touch.

Doesn't everyone in American have a Whole Foods stocked full of arugula ?

There's how many Whole Foods store in DC area now ?  16 stores (go where the money is)

Evidently, DC can afford the arugula.

Nasty stuff, like chard. Smother it in dressing then eat the plate instead.

I had tacos last week. I did nothing to make them healthier. Everything I put on them was to make them tastier.

Salad is not food. Salad is what food eats.

Homemade pierogies with butter and onion, smoked kielbasi and homemade sauerkraut.

With a little sprig of arugula on the side of the plate just for that nouveau splash of color!

That could have won the contest too.

I'm trying to work up something with "Can you smell-ell-ell what Barack is cooking".

But I got nothing.

There is a petition on-line to bring a Whole Foods to Peoria.

That wouldn't be so bad, but the nearest Waffle House is 150 miles away.

Also, the contestants were children. That's gotta be a metaphor, too.

They should have requested a contest to cook using food and ingredients that Barack and co. often eat.

Won't get any whole-wheat turkey tacos there.

If they had their heads on straight in Peoria they would have gotten the Cat plant. Too bad that Springfield is so bass-ackwards.

Now another Big Al's..........

Whole Foods? More like Whole Pay Check. Have people seen the prices they charge?

I am a fan of good food as much as any up town yuppie. I go to farmers markets, local butchers, ethnic food stores, all of it. I have even made my own sushi. I say this to let you know that I am all for arugula, and ethnic foods.

I hate Whole Foods and everything it stands for. It is a yuppie trap. It is the place people shop at so they can call themselves cosmopolitan without actually having to be cosmopolitan. It is an Ethnic Food store that has no ethnic people shop at. It is a store build upon the conceits of white liberals.

Ah! I better stop. I can go on for pages complaining about why Whole Foods is a sign of everything that is wrong with American Liberals.

No there are flour tortillas I too. It may just be a Gringo thing, but I don't think that is true...

The fun part is that some of my progressive friends are starting to warn against Whole Foods as it's (GASP!) a Big Business! (Cue incidental music.)  They don't care about your health at all!  They only want your money!

Things cost more at Whole Foods because you pay extra for that smug sense of self-satisfaction.

In the Dave Barry book made movie "Big Trouble," Stanley Tucci plays a mob accountant with sticky fingers.  During his attempted hit, he falls to the ground and gets a faceful of halucinogenic giant toad venom.  When he looks up at the family dog, the dog's face is the face of Martha Stewart.  Instead of barking, the dog says, in Stewart's voice, "Arugula, arugula."

One of the funniest bits on film, ever.

At the risk of derailing this thread, that was one of the funniest movies that suffered to the worst case of ill-timing ever.

Real tacos around here are of the soft tortilla, blue corn variety.

Each taco consists of two soft warm rolled tortillas filled with pulled lamb only. Served with a veggie sparse consume on the side. Then there is the seasoned  chicken or rabbit wrapped in cactus and baked in a pit.

There are three standard salsa choices, two of which are suitable for removing rust or paint.

True Mexican food, not the ghastly imitations served in the States.

The (legal) Mexican immigrants that worked on our farm growing up never gave me anything like that. Lots of tamales, but never blue corn anything, lamb, or rabbit.

Flour tortillas, to the best of my recollection, are used for burritos, chimichangas and quesadillas.

I spent a week in Zihuatanejo last fall eating "true Mexican food."

I very much prefer the ghastly imitations served in the States.
