Uncle Sam at Kilroy's

From 7-10 PM at Kilroy's in northern Virginia, Ricos will gather to feast and converse on the issues of the day. The Wisconsin victory. The pending (maybe) French downgrade (will Germany be the last man standing in Europe by this time next week?). The twelfth imam, is it a boy or a girl? The Captain America movie: Do they not make movies like this any more because the theaters are too teensy weensy and they can't make enough popcorn? Starship Troopers vs. Stranger in a Strange Land: Will the real Heinlein please stand up. Is the Tea Party growing or shrinking? (The polls say yes!) Speaker Boehner: Master strategist or missed opportunity? The Super-Debt Commission: Why these guys? Chaucer: Master poet for the ages or the academic equivalent of water boarding?

Adult beverages are optional. The restaurant is a family restaurant with patriotic exhibits on display.

Kilroys: 5250 Port Royal Road, Springfield, VA 22151

From 495, take Braddock Road west-bound, left at the first light, and then right into the Ravensworth shopping center. Kilroy's is at the far end.

If you have not confirmed yet, post here by 6PM so we get enough tables.

I will be wearing a red, white, and blue Hawaiian shirt and a blue button reading: "No Sympathy for Self-Inflicted Wounds."

I'll be there unless the babysitter stands me up. And I have red hair.

Wish I could join you. Would somebody drink a Miller Lite on my behalf?  (I'm watching my carbs.)

Sisyphus,

I was hoping I could swing it again, but I just got a plaintive call from my Mom to come fix her car. I cannot be in two places at once, but I will make the next DC Soiree'. Let us know when the next event will happen so I can block it out on the calendar. Darn I really enjoyed the last one.

Oh and Felcia's boys were marvelous well behaved despite her implying otherwise.

Urgh. Just out of reach for me. Someone drink a decent beer for me. Miller Lite? Honestly? If you want to skip carbs, eat less bread. Don't compromise the quality of your beer!

Hey Peter I was willing to spot you a brew next week, however your lovely assistant Nicole keeps a very tight lid on your schedule, perhaps next trip to Palo Alto.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the next one will include the Hemingways so we can claim a contributor/editor élan.

Looks like we'll fall short of last month, but August being August... If you are in the DC area please give some feedback.

For a non-summer soirée, what is better for you:

Friday night or Saturday afternoon?

family friendly or upscale?

bring the kids or adults only?

Virginia, Maryland, or downtown?

NoVA is best for me, and either Friday or Saturday, family or otherwise, works. I often don't bring my own kids to an adult-oriented social event because I have a hard time concentrating on adults, but I don't mind other folks' kids at all.

If this next one isn't scheduled in conjunction with the Hemingways, I'm lodging a formal protest. Have a blast tonight!

Update: I made it after all and got to meet Sisyphus and Mrs. Sisyphus as well as Basil "Don't mention the war!" Fawlty. Cheers, y'all!

I hope to make it to one someday and NoVA is best for me.

Sounds like a wonderfully ambitious agenda. Sorry to have missed it, but I am looking forward to the upcoming "Fall In!" With The Hemingways Ricochet Extravaganza.

I prefer Friday night, non-upscale, kids are fine, and NoVA or the District are preferred but I certainly don't mind venturing into the wilds of Maryland for such an occasion.

Mollie, what are some September dates that work for you and your beloved?
