Brand new music from one of the giants of the indie rock scene, Death Cab for Cutie from their forthcoming Code and Keys album.  Apparently this video is noteworthy in and of itself for being the first "LIVE. SCRIPTED. ONE TAKE. MUSIC VIDEO SHOOT. EVER."  Its a variety of cameras, filming and broadcasting live across the internet,  a singular, continuous sequence featuring complicated Busby Berkeley-style dance numbers. (Hat tip to Hang On for pointing that connection out) Basically, "Lights, Camera, Action" was only announced once.  You can tell how big a deal it was to the crew when they break out into cheers at the end of the video.  As per the song, which I literally just listened to for the first time... I like it.  A Lot.

I like this band, but had never seen a video.  Wow --- quite a lot going on to have had it work so well on one take!

Does anyone know how the band came up with their name?

According to Wikipedia...

Death Cab for Cutie...took the band name from the title of the song written by Neil Innes and Vivian Stanshall and performed by their group, the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, in The Beatles' 1967 film, Magical Mystery Tour. The song's name was in turn taken from a pulp fiction crime magazine.

They have a large catalog that's worth diving into.  And if you like the lead singer, Ben Gibbard, you should check out his side project, Postal Service, which tends toward the more electronic.  In fact, until just a few years ago, Postal Service was far better known in Europe than Death Cab, due to the larger popularity of the more electric side of pop across the pond.

Is this Busby Berkeley reincarnated as far as the video shoot? Could not help but think of him as I watched it.

Thank you for bringing that up.  Apparently that was intentional.  This Google search brings up a number of postings referencing the dance sequences as being Busby Berkeley- esque.  I do have to admit to requiring a quick Wikipedia search to learn just who it is that you were referencing.

Further reading also brought to light that the video was broadcast live across the internet.  Again, for those who care about such things, a pretty cool revelation.

Let me know when you'd like to play some good music.

There are plenty of one take videos from the early 1980s when MTV first began.

I'm not sayin'...I'm just sayin'.

Really? You're just sayin' there were Videos whose one take was broadcast live and included that much choreography? Really? Back in the Early 80's? Like Toto? Or Lover Boy? Or Quiet Riot? Do share.
