And so, 325 or so Songs of the Day in, the fat lady sings.

OK,  maybe not a fat lady per se.  But Adam Duritz has been a bit hefty at times, and his locks are close enough to Tracy Chapman that the analogy holds.  Today's tune is our omega.

I have loved the conversation.   Unfortunately, I have not been very good at driving new ones recently.  As such, rather than jumping a shark in my attempts to pick songs for the pure purpose of driving comments, I am retiring the Song of the Day as a daily feature.

If anyone out there has been really digging my selections, especially the more contemporary ones being played over the past week, and would like to get copies of my playlists on CD as I put them together once a month or so, shoot me a Private Message so we can work out the details.

Otherwise, I will see you all out there, in one form or another.  Thanks for playing along the past 11 months!

"LOL" is such a horrible digital cliche, but that did literally make me laugh out loud.

Casey will be responding with Venn diagrams of gay marriage incidence in his neighborhood ( the olympic village), where it's always a wonderful day.

Thanks for the long service Lance!

Incidentally, Adam Duritz and I went to high school together and were fellow tenors in the school chorus. He did not sport dreads back then, but he was already rock star cool with the raspy voice. I like his music and like even more the fact that a guy my age can earn a living as a pop star.

Wait a minute!  Packing it in after 11 months?  Isn't that a little like Sarah Palin bailing on the Alaska governorship?  I say it should run at least another month - finish your term, Man!

It's been fun. After scanning main feed, you were usually my first read on the member feed.

I bet I never heard 95% of the songs before. The best part was....no 80s hair bands.

Ah, so comes the end of an era. It's a bit sad, Lance.

Thanks so much for your consistency here.  I discovered a lot of new tunes through your song of the day selections.

Thank you for the service, Lance. I've enjoyed your songs and heard a lot of music I never would found if not for you.

Wow, y'all.  My wife warned me that I would get some sort of reaction that would compel me to change my mind.  I have to admit I took steps to ensure I couldn't back out.  Maybe a bit more of a confession as to my true motivations.

I alluded to lack of conversation.  That's not really the point.  I never expected members to comment day after day on the merits of the music I selected.  But I was starting a conversation nonetheless, and as anyone who posts regularly knows, you check in to see if there are any comments.  Since I post every morning over breakfast, doing so guarantees a full day of clicking on the MyConversations bookmark on my browser. Everyday.  Since much of my day is spent with my little girl nearby, that is a lot of screen time.

We don't have the TV on much at our house, but TV is not the only screen in the house either.  Between blackberries, and iTouch and a laptop, diving into some screen is far too easy.  And I need to break that habit.  The Song of the Day was my sacrifice towards that effort.

We discussed me going forward with the Bing Crosby Song of the Day but we were afraid the lynching party would get to me within a month...

iTunes just lost a bundle. After (most of) the songs you put up, Lance, I check out the artist and similar songs - and wind up spending a fortune.

I thank you. You spread much joy.

I really appreciate the reaction.  I don't realize that maybe a bunch of others start their day by reading and listening to that which started my own.  To the Great Adventure's point, I looked at the calendar and realized I was less than a month from a full year.  I made the decision to do so now partly because of it.  At one year, another reason for staying on would have popped up.

I tend to be overly honest, and hope my sincerity defines my as much as anything else.  If you are cognizant of that, please appreciate my need to shake things up.  I hope to reengage the effort again down the road, if Ricochet will have me.  If I do, you will know that I am doing so from a new and better spot.

I will also have had time to refresh my catalog.  Believe it or not, I had shared pretty much everything I had tagged to share.

Most everyone I wish to thank most has commented already.  Surprisingly, I owe the genesis of my friendships to many of you to one man named Kenneth.

See ya in the posts!

I will leave you with one last tune: Mumford and Song- Timshel.   It's funny that it took the opening scenes of an episode from the surprisingly enjoyable Hell On Wheels western drama on A&E to introduce it to me, considering I own the album from which it came.  But such is the irony of contemporary music collecting.  The era of the song is upon us.  The album often doesn't get listened to in full.  As much as I like them, I had not listened all the way through Mumford & Sons Sigh No More album.  And in a way I'm glad. I loved how it was used to open the episode.  Its a violent scene, so be warned.  But lovely nonetheless.

Thanks!  Especially since your Dec '11 membership date shows you are new to the experience.  I hope I address your points better in my follow up comments above.
