Like all 3- especially the Low Anthem.  Is this a John Boehner tribute?

Its actually fulfilling a promise I made to a Ricochet member yesterday in honor of his Ohio roots.  That was hours and hours before the Speaker closed the deal.  I will not deny the lovely coincidence though.  Thanks for bringing it up.

I'm missing the soulful original that Rush uses to introduce his program.

Rush used to play Blood Buzz Ohio as his intro?  That cat is so much cooler than I thought.  Remember his TV show back in the 90's when he would wax on poetically about his ties?

I do know that River was not talking about Blood Buzz Ohio. (I am never quite sure if my dry humor translates or not.  Sorry if that came across as being sanctimonious, River.  I was shooting for faux naive ).  What I did not know that the song being referred was a Pretenders classic.  What a great add to today's celebration of Ohio.

I love The National...I saw them perform an awesome set (including Bloodbuzz Ohio) at the Treasure Island music festival in the fall. They're really great live.

I remember you mentioning that the last time I played the National.  As a result and ever since then, I think of you whenever I play the National, which is often.  Is that weird?

Though it's just a fan-created video, you can hear The Black Keys' "Ohio" here (the track was a limited time promotion for new registrants to the Keys' email list). It's not the best from the Akron duo, but given the song's title and the band's Akron heritage it seems appropriate here!

Cool.  I do need to catch up on the good that is the Black Keys.  Its also interesting how many bands come out of Ohio these days.

Ahhhh....followed by, I believe Detroit?  Which is a prospos considering I am half Ohian and half Michagander.  You're just begging me to play my Huey Lewis card aren't you.  Its queued up!  Just waiting for the perfect moment to pull the trigger.

These are great.  I already had bought a Blind Piot CD because of a video you had posted a while back.  My daughter immediately loaded the tracks onto her ipod.

Oh....we're heading to NYC see the Punch Brothers this Saturday.  If you have a chance, post Rye Whiskey for the Ricochet crowd --- I bet it will be enjoyed by many.

OMG, that The National video, and song are so cool!  Even more bizarre, I think I was in the Park and cafe where they filmed that yesterday (Prospect; a place on Vanderbilt in Prospect Heights?).  The singer was so channeling Johnny Cash!

Thank you for this. Either because college was 1985, or because times have very changed (or both), I find it almost impossible to discover new, good music.  Maybe Lance's posts are The Way?

I think the Blind Pilot tune is only available via their iTunes Sessions release.  Here is a link.  If you already have their 3 Rounds and a Sound album, the iTunes Sessions EP is a great treat.  I can't wait for their new album, though I don't know yet when its coming out.  I do know they were touring with the Decemberists in Europe, and that their Austin show is already sold out.

I look forward to diving into the Punch Brothers soon!  Maybe I will post that when you get back from NYC so you can let us know how the show was and I can link to some YouTube footage that I am sure will be uploaded.  Have fun.

Here is a Director's Cut featuring some "making of" footage of the video before going into a live performance of the song.

They are very very great.  If you like them, start with Alligator, then get Boxer, then the Virgina EP, before finally settling into their most recent High Violet.  You really won't be disappointed.

Now you've done it.  All this National talk has brought Diane Ellis, Ed. back into my mind...
