Re: Today: A Date That Has Lived in Infamy
Thank you for remembering this date, Claire.
If any of you have not traveled to Pearl Harbor and visited the war memorials, then you absolutely must.
You will carry home a sense of that day--an ache, really-- that no audio or video can begin to impart.

Re: Today: A Date That Has Lived in Infamy
Thanks Claire.
My great uncle Jack Kennedy was aboard the USS Honolulu on that fateful day. The ship took damage. He wasn't injured. (no relation to the future President)
Uncle Jack lived a full life and he was of the best sort. He died 15 years ago.
I just sent out my annual email to all my family members. Reminding them to "raise a glass for uncle Jack".

There's a lesson in the part of that speech regarding the Japanese diplomacy immediately before the attack.
Thanks, Claire.

To all of those who say war is not the answer.... who say you can't force a country with no history of democracy into becoming a peaceful nation... who say nation building does not work....
I give you the Empire of Japan.
