A few minutes ago, the Denver Broncos won their opening-round playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Going into the game, the Steelers' record was 12-4, while the Broncos' record was 8-8.  The Steelers were a 9-point favorite.

At the end of four quarters, the score was 23-23.  However, in the first play of overtime Tim Tebow completed a pass to wide receiver Demerius Thomas, who carried the ball 80 yards for a touchdown. By overtime rules, that ended the game, giving the Broncos a 29-23 win. Although Tebow completed slightly less than 50% of his passes (10 out of 21), he threw for a total of 316 yards, giving him an amazing 15 yards per attempt.

The game, as I write, is the top story on the Drudge Report.  Drudge's headline:  "Amazing Grace."

What a game! I totally expected a 20-10 Steelers win. There were 6 minutes where the Broncos scored 17 points in the 2nd quarter. Just beautiful.

I think these overtime rules are horrible, though. Thankfully we won the toss but that just doesn't strike me as fair.

Turned out to be a great match-up though. I think we have to hope the Patriots are having an off week next week.

That kid can't hit a 15 yard crossing pattern to save his life, but he can drop rainbows down the field on a dime.  What an amazing game!

The toss of the coin rule has not changed, much of life is a toss of the coin..just depends what you do with your toss

Hope you didn't lose any money on that, Mollie.

Pheh, I'm the last person to ask about football rules, but Mr. Chauvinist explained to me that the new rules are intended to lower the rate at which teams who won the coin toss won the game by merely having to kick a field goal under the old sudden-death rules. Something like 70%?

The brilliance of this win was making the call and executing the play to score a touchdown on the first possession.  Geaux Tebow!  Oh, wait.  That's tomorrow's game.

I think the Almighty just wanted to send a subtle message to Bill Maher.

I don't bet as it is, but I would never ever bet against my Broncos.

Amazing Grace has nothing to do with this deal.  How about work your butt off and be willing to let the credit be given to others?  There is the message here.

I'm not a fan of the new rules either, but they're still better than the college overtime rules, which I detest.

My preferred option: get rid of sudden death.  Play the full 15 mins, or perhaps shorten it to 10 mins.  If that ends tied, play another one.  That was such a great game, who wouldn't want to see another quarter of it?  The networks could run even more ads, everybody's happy.

Its a great new rule that if you can win the toss and score a TD in first OT then that settles it.  The loser's defense sucks.

I like the new rule regardless of what happened tonight.

Next week should be fun, Broncs/Pats. Lost in all the Tebowing kerfuffle is just how much fun it is to watch Tebow play.

How true!  I saw part of this video on television a couple weeks ago.  Definitely proves your point.

Keeping this in mind as I go down on one knee to set my alarm for tomorrow morning 4.5 hrs before my work starts as I'm still in the "work your butt off" part of life.

Tim, I'm from Pittsburgh PA.  When Franco Harris broke free with the immaculate reception I was watching and cheering.

What I must admit is that I get a special pleasure watching Tim Tebow succeed.  It so refreshing to see someone with a soul excelling and gaining mass media recognition for it.  It's been a long time but maybe we are ready for a change.

Coming into this game, Tebow/Broncos had lost 3 in a row.  Tebow has NEVER lost 3 in a row, anywhere...until last week.  The pressure on him to perform was HUGE even from his own teammates.  Tebow stepped up and played the game of his life.  Then he credited his fellow players.  That is grace.

The Broncos have no business even being in the playoffs. But something tells me our improbable season will finally end next week. But hey, I'd love it if we could match up!
