I'm not sure if you'll all appreciate just what a weird twist this is. It's weird because the people here who are most afraid of the AKP are convinced that Gülen is the Turkish Khomenei--the hidden mastermind behind the AKP's rise to power.

I'm not even going to begin to try to interpret this. I applaud the statement, though I'm sure Turkish friends will tell me that behind it lies some nefarious conspiracy far too subtle for my Occidental mind to grasp.

Gülen is the Turkish Khomeini? That is weird. Especially because, as the WSJ piece tells us:

While in the U.S. in 1999 for medical treatment, he was charged in Turkey with attempting to create an Islamic state— anathema under Turkey's secularist constitution. He stayed in Pennsylvania, where he now lives on a 25-acre estate in the Pocono Mountains. Over the years, he said, he has left the estate twice.

He lives in the Poconos? Um, isn't that a little too close to the Catskills? Or is that maybe the source of his newfound moderation?

Ms Berlinski I heard you on Dennis Miller show and just heard your podcast interview with Rob & Peter , they asked you questions that had your wheels grinding.

You seem equipped to write the story of "wither goest Turkey ?" the interview questions could shape the story , surely there's an editor willing to pay you well for it, maybe you should try the CIA .

you got the goods
