This is London......

Edward Murrow narrated the fires in London years ago, as the fascist attacked our allies. Now the anarchists are attacking, from within, with victimhood instead of Messerschmitts. Class warfare?
Where is the legendary resolve and grit of the Londoners who survived 300 sorties a night from the Luftwaffe? Where is the Queen in the garden of Buckingham Palace surveying the damage ?
When will they demand that their police crack the heads of the arsonist mobs? When will they shut down the twitter bullhorns to violent action ?
How does one help an ally in distress ?
The new yob burning London.

All good questions.
I dunno.
Gird your loins for this in the US - the pitchforks of class envy.

Oh the humanity! The endless ennui and boredom!
But seriously, generations of socialist 'persuasion' has sapped the youth and their parents of all drive and ambition. Not to mention the inculcated belief that they have almost nothing to be proud of in all their history.

Re: This is London......
How does one help an ally in distress? I suppose there's no lend-lease when it comes to morality especially when we have a short supply at home. Britain will either deal with it on her own or succumb to civilizational collapse.

Re: This is London......
I hope Great Britain acts wisely and we learn from them. We will need all the guidance we can get.

Re: This is London......
You announce a curfew and warn rioters that they will be shot on sight. It puts an instant end to these shenanigans. There comes a time when society is justified in using lethal force to protect life and property. Britain has crossed that line. We'll soon see if they have the intestinal fortitude to carry through. The alternative is to live in a permanent state of siege.

Re: This is London......
There are Britons standing up for themselves.
Seeing those Sikhs standing in front of their temple with swords is extremely heartening. Reading further down the difference between what citizens and police are saying about protecting their homes is extremely disheartening:
'We've had enough of the police just standing there... while people are looting and ruining the whole area ...Everybody here pays tax and we've all had enough of it. We're sickened by the police doing absolutely nothing... They're not policing our streets, we have to police them." vs. "That needs to stop."
Poll on the side of the article says 1/3 Britons supports shooting rioters with live ammunition, 9/10 say turn the water cannons on them, 77% think the army should be called in to help restore order.
The government has failed in its duty to protect the lives and property of the citizenry so they are taking it into their own hands...and the government is telling them to stop. I'm sure that we'll soon see a few "vigilantes" being prosecuted for protecting themselves while 99% of the rioters aren't even arrested.

We already sent them an I-pod with all of Obama's speeches, what more do they need?

Re: This is London......
I have thought about this a good bit today. Daniel Hannan posted today at the Daily Telegraph that part of the solution is an elected sheriff who has narrowly defined responsibilities to be responsive to the citizens and who can follow through with appropriate sentencing for vandals. That sort of gets back to Giuliani's approach to fixing broken windows to get back control of the city. Developing respect for the law within a community must be the focus of every aspect of law enforcement and should override any concern for sensitivity to those who might feel oppressed or neglected. Who do you think feels neglected in London tonight?

Re: This is London......
Are both allies not in distress to some degree? From here in between them it certainly feels that way.As it happens,my own Isle is also in some distress.I'd say the days of cosy assumptions are over. For everyone.

Here is a first-person account by someone who was mugged, beaten and robbed in these riots in London:

"Many of those who gathered in the late night public patrols had done so after becoming frustrated by the lack of police response to the riots."

Why do I bring this up? See Amendment II, United States Constitution.

Of all the words I've read about the situation in England, these are among the most poignant and thought provoking.

Re: This is London......
Here is an article by MAX HASTINGS, a noted British historian, about the situation.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2024284/UK-riots-2011-Liberal-dogma-spawned-generation-brutalised-youths.html
and another by THEODORE DALRYMPLE http://www.city-journal.org/2011/eon0810td.html.
Both are well worth reading.
There is nothing that we can do for Britain. We need to spend our time and resources preparing for our own similar days of trial..

Re: This is London......
To tell the truth, considering that England outlawed self-defense long ago, I'm mostly surprised to learn that the British police are allowing the shop keepers and regular citizens to use force to defend themselves. The British are reaping what they've sown as far as I'm concerned. I just hope it's not too late for us.
