This Poll Question Makes Me Want To Punch Someone
As has been noted below, the post-DNC bounce for Obama appears to be, well, landing with a thud. The latest Washington Post poll shows the two candidates neck and neck again. But check out one of the idiotic questions that was asked. Don't even worry about the answer, just note the question:
Who would you rather take care of you when you are sick? Obama 49%, Romney 33% in new WaPo-ABC poll.
Who would you rather take care of you when you are sick? Who would you rather take care of you when you're sick? Are you kidding me?

Romney.
Obama would likely tell me that Ricochet is the cause of all my health problems and require me to pay an extra tax.

Uh, neither? That's what my doctor's for, if he's allowed to.

Re: This Poll Question Makes Me Want To Punch Someone
I don't know if this sort of question was common prior to the 90s, but they certainly began showing up in earnest during the Clinton years. Seemed like almost every poll back then had a question about which candidate was the most "caring."
It's a bit of a trap, because if you respond like I often did, that it's not an elected official's job to "care" for me, that makes it sound like I want a candidate who (or that the candidate I favor) is "uncaring."
In fact, I'd rather that the government leave the "caring" up to family and other loved ones.
These poll questions need to be called out for their attempt at emotional manipulation (so I thank you for doing exactly that).

Obama would deny you the procedure and tell you to just take the pill.

How would Abraham Lincoln have done in that poll? FDR? Harry Truman? Silly season, indeed.

Re: This Poll Question Makes Me Want To Punch Someone
Hmm . . . I was not aware that either candidate is a doctor or a pastor or my mommy -- which would be the only people I want around me when I'm sick.
Isn't Mitt Romney the one, by the way, who actually visits and helps sick people in his spare time as a private citizen using his own resources? Or is that so 19th Century of me to applaud that?

And the pill in question would still be awaiting FDA approval.

There are plenty of Bolshevik teachers on strike here in Chicago. Please come and punch some of them in the face.
Here you go. Pick one of these lunch-boxes and swing away.

It's a natural question for proponents of the nanny state to ask. That's the problem!

Indeed! This poll might be a good reminder that Mitt Romney is the one with actual track record of caring for people. Whereas the President . . . well, let's just ask his brother George about that.

This is taking touchy-feely politics to the absurd. Who would you rather hold your hand? Stroke your head?

Re: This Poll Question Makes Me Want To Punch Someone
OK, I agree. Stupid question. But the answer would not have been so skewed in favor of Obama if Americans had heard from all those people who spoke at the Republican convention about how Romney helped take care of their families personally. That stuff all happened in an echo chamber, before prime time. I hope the Romney campaign can take some of that material and turn it into ads to get the message out.

It's kind of a great meme though... what other questions might they ask:
Who would you rather have sing at your wedding? Why Obama of course.
Who would you rather have on your basketball team? Obama!
Whose March Madness picks do you trust more? Obama, hands down.

Both choices strike me as pretty creepy, to be honest about it.
