This Day in Madness: DC Area Malthusian Terrorizes Discovery Channel HQ

DCist has the story with updates. There's a bomb, a manifesto, and an evacuated day care center. Heaven help me, I miss the '90s, but this is a Clinton-era flashback we could all do without. J.P. Freire:
The manifesto of this lunatic in Silver Spring demands that Discovery air shows based on a novel where a gorilla promotes population control.
Here's the real question: Is the press going to call this guy an environmental terrorist?
Three guesses, first two don't count.

I did the same thing when Nickelodeon canceled "Barney".

He must've seen that huge crowd, including people with little children, in Washington DC on Saturday, and gotten extremely frightened about overpopulation. Obviously, it's all Glenn Beck's fault. /s

The most popular fiction title among mad-bombers, serial killers, and miscellaneous malcontents hawking manifestos used to be Catcher in the Rye. Move over Salinger, your key demo is leaving you for the works of fiction by Rachel Carson, Al Gore, et al. How embarrassing...

ABC News' website has a headline calling him an Environmental Militant and the opening sentence identifies him as an environmental activist.
Maybe they read your post, James ;-)
+1 to them for doing so. Took my by pleasant surprise.

If he wanted a station to air a show that nobody would watch he could have simply written a letter to PBS.

Sounds like someone who could run for national office on the Democratic ticket.
Reminds me of this classic;

Al Gore or the Unibomber quiz

I hope no one gets hurt but since this guy is an environmental activist is this a Liberal Event?

Hope the police used non-lead environmentally safe ammo.
Maybe they could try putting Global Warming on NBC's fall schedule. It would be canceled in a month.

Here's AP's first graf:
So if you knew nothing else, you might assume he didn't like all that green stuff they were shovin' down our throats. What he actually believed came about 15 paragraphs later.
Good thing he didn't kill anyone, or we'd be arguing about whether Greenpeace could open an office down the block to promote a more moderate form of ecological consciousness.

The NBC report says the gunman's manifesto included this sentence, "Nothing is more important than saving ... the Lions, Tigers, Giraffes, Elephants, Froggies, Turtles, Apes, Raccoons, Beetles, Ants, Sharks, Bears, and, of course, the Squirrels. The humans? The planet does not need humans.”
OK, he lost me at "Froggies." How do you make demands for "Froggies" and maintain any credibility?

Possibly by meaning French people? (Are they an endangered species?)

Note his cavalier disregard for the rattlesnakes.

I blame Smokey the Bear. His hate-filled rhetoric and environmental demagoguery was bound to inspire violence sooner or later.

Meanwhile, in Greece eco-terrorists attacked a mink farm and released 50,000 of the critters into the wild. The beasties will, of course, starve to death over the winter, but they will die free. Cruelty is fine by the left when it's done with noble intentions. Sentiment counts!
