They Just Can't Help It

Although Weiner is in the news today, and finally for the right reason, the MSM seems to be on autopilot.
This article, which will be taken down fairly soon, appears to expose an automatic bias built into the Reuters headline composition program. It reads:

This is ridiculous! Nice find, flownover. I hope you don't mind me replacing the headline with a screenshot of the article. I didn't believe it until I saw it with my own eyes.

As always, you improve.

I can't wait to see how the NY Post headlines Weiner's resignation...

Well, it's still there at 9:47am Australian Eastern Standard Time. You can see by the time stamp below what it is in Ricochet time.

A gun-toting supporter of Republican hopeful Mitt Romney at the campus of St Anselms College where the first New Hampshire Republican presidential debate took place.
Edited on Jun 16, 2011 at 5:16pmFrom yesterday's Irish Times. They published a correction today.

Re: They Just Can't Help It
Still there... and there are no comments correcting the "error." I tried to comment, but didn't want to go through the whole sign up process.
Pretty despicable, but so what else is new at al Reuters.

Re: They Just Can't Help It
Cut them some slack. That headline is meant strictly for its European customers.

Re: They Just Can't Help It
Not just Europeans. Both of Australia's major lefty papers initially went with Republican. One has corrected, but the other now has him as 'embattled US Repeblican Anthony Weiner'. It can neither get party affiliation right, nor spell.

Re: They Just Can't Help It
And here's a cool version of the story which appears to have been translated -- most approximately -- from another language, even though originating from and English-writing reported:
'Thе 46-year-ancient congressman concurred Friday thаt hе hаd online hit wіth thе 17-year-ancient lady bυt ѕаіd thеrе wаѕ zero inappropriate'

Re: They Just Can't Help It
I bet they are misinterpreting the abbreviation Rep., for Representative. Heck, the word Republican is even part of the URL.
At 9:50 pm PDT, the headline still says Republican.

Re: They Just Can't Help It
The AP gets in on the act ....
No mention of lying about the incident(s) for weeks, no mention of multiple such posts, no mention of contacting recipients to cover the incident(s) up....
"Nearly three weeks after Rep. Anthony Weiner accidentally tweeted a photo..."

Re: They Just Can't Help It
I think you're right about Reuters being on automatic pilot with this stuff. I screencapped this Reuters story from the start of the month on Weiner that, perhaps astonishingly, ended up on the newsfeed of the otherwise solidly conservative Townhall. It's great that they have the major newsfeeds in their mix of content, but they really need to assign someone to check the Reuters feed rather than running their headlines verbatim.
Of course, given that it's Reuters, as blogger Will Collier quips, “I guess one man’s Democrat is another man’s Republican. Or something…”

I think a guy in a green helmet would be a better source than Reuters, their exciting photo work of the "unwarranted, aggressive" bombing of Lebanon was evidence enough for me to look askance adinfinitum when the Reuters ( or AP,AFP,etc) byline appears.
