The Obama campaign is selling a new flag in Obama's image. Instead of stars, it has the Obama symbol. And some have noticed the similarity between the flag and some imagery that cropped up last week during the attacks on U.S. embassies around the world:

Fred Cole: Imagine how bad it'd be if there weren't pushback. · 2 minutes ago

What pushback? From who? · 8 minutes ago

People like us who notice this cult of personality [expletive] and call them out on it.

I remember, four years ago, the pseudo presidential Obama used on some podiums.

This stuff is creepy, so its good there's pushback.

Politicians seducing the public can really wreck a republic, especially if they use their sway to give themselves more power.

I was really concerned in January 2009 that a slick tongued demagogue could do dangerous things and people would go along with it because he could sway them with his personality.

It was very heartening to see the push back Obama got for his crap.   · 9 minutes ago

Fred I know you are an articulate guy, but if you think for one minute his campaign thinks you or I count as anything other than tax revenue producing spawn we should talk.

When I was referring to what pushback I am not talking about Drudge or our little conservative corner of the world.

If the real flag's stripes stand for the thirteen original colonies, what do the new flag's stripes stand for?  I count nine stripes.  My guess: Aggrieved Whites, Aggrieved Blacks, Aggrieved Latinos, Aggrieved Aborting Women, Aggrieved Gays/Lesbians, Aggrieved Native Americans, Aggrieved Multi-Millionaires, Aggrieved Academics, and Public Sector Employee Unions.  The United States of Whining Victimhood.

If ya don't spend your life in a state of perpetual indignation and aggrievement, you're probably a conservative.  And you don't get to be on the new flag.  Sorry.

I hear "our stripes," and I think "racialist dog-whistle."

"Stripes" is a biblical term for the wounds from a scourging.

"By His stripes, we are healed."

Call me crazy, but I think this is a subtle but unmistakeable appeal to black ressentiment against whites.  Right in line with Jeremiah Wright's black liberation theology.  Those stripes are designed to look like blood.

10 cents: You laughed and scoffed but this proves it. He really is from another country.  I wonder if that country's constitution starts out. "I the Person, in Order to form  more perfect Unions,  promote Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to myself, do ordain and establish this Constitution."

To paraphrase one of Terry Pratchett's Discworld parodies:

Barack Obama believes in one man, one vote. He is The Man, he has The Vote.

That's because unlike the original, these colors DO run.

Hey, just went to the Corner and found Jay Nordlinger channelling me:

In light of the Obama campaign’s altered American flag, which they call “Our Stripes,” I propose a slogan for them: “And with his stripes we are healed.”

You meant pushback among Obama-ites?  Nah.  You won't see that.  But imagine if people didn't complain about this creepy cult of personality stuff, imagine how much further they'd push it.

And fortunately, it creeps out enough leaners, people who are going to vote for Obama but haven't drank the kool-aid that they can't push it too far.

On the other hand, you may be right.

Actually, I count 5 red stripes, and 0 white ones... that's just the background showing where they haven't put anything.

Hence, the 5 stripes are O-B-A-M-A.

Can we assume that beneath the bloody-finger flag Uncle Sam is lying there slowly bleeding out?

I can only imagine what Biden's flag looks like.

EJ?

No Caesar: Well this puts his laughable claim of being president of all Americans in the light it deserves.  He's your president if you toe his line.  This would-by tyrant imagines he's Caesar.

As bad as this is, the worst was when he used his own imagery in official US governmental signs.  Does anyone remember the Roman Standard-like symbol for Obamacare?  The claim that it's based on the traditional Caduceus symbol for medicine doesn't make it better. · 1 hour ago

Very interesting. Can you provide a link to a US government site?

Please tell me this is an Onion article. I cannot believe anyone would have the audacity for that corruption of our flag.

I found confirmation and the rest of the story on Snopes. The campaign aide quote didn't see what the big deal was. That is not only sad, but frightening.

I always thought "by his stripes we are healed" meant that there was nothing a Sargeant Major couldn't fix.

Remember, folks: Obama ran for president saying he wanted to "fundamentally transform America."

Well, doesn't a fundamentally transformed America need a fundamentally transformed flag?

The American people elected this bozo. If we don't fire him in November, this flag will be just the beginning.

I see two interesting subliminal messages in the Obamerica flag:

1.  Alaska is not shown, which would appear to be a slight against Obama's real opponent in the 2008 election, Sarah Palin (at least judging from who was criticized the most by the Kneepad Brigade Media)

2.  Hawaii, Obama's potential retirement home in 2013, is also not shown, which may be an attempt to let Democrats forget about the disastrous presidency of Obama - out of sight, out of mind.

This is just the latest example of the "one's" attempt to instill the cult of personality that is so pervasive in the middle east.  Drive through Amman some time and see the huge portraits of the latest fearless leader.  Every step in this direction subtracts from the ideas of personal liberty and responsibility.  These guys, and they are always "strong men", are a feature of dictatorships, autocracies, etc.  Obama wants to transform us into this type of society.  I, and Bill Whittle, and legions more will say no dramatically in November and prevent this existential shift.

Creepy, yes.  But people have been manipulating the design and imagery of the Stars and Stripes for a long time, to suit a variety of marketing objectives.  Some I like, some I don't.

But you can always tell the intent - most of us know just by a glance whether a particular manipulation of the colors honors it or dishonors it.

Pretty clear which category this one falls into.
