GN0307~Nuclear-Blast-Posters

Meanwhile, in 2011, as in, right now:

The US has expressed concern over reports that Syria is moving troops near the border with Turkey, and warned of a possible escalation of conflict.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the reported Syrian troops movements were "very worrisome."

Turkish troops are mobilizing on the Turkish side.

And a UN Security Council expert report on Iran's violation of the sanctions regime--which is being blocked by Russia--finds "alarming" breaches:

Iran's breaches involve nuclear and ballistic weapons and all other categories of sanctions passed, Briens told the meeting.

"They involve increasingly complex methods: the use of front companies, assumed names, using multiple financial intermediaries and currency exchange offices, physically hiding things, false statements and forgery," the French envoy said.

Syria is implicated in nearly all the violations and is itself refusing to cooperate with the panel of experts, Briens said. According to a copy of the blocked report seen by AFP, six of the nine arms transfer violations reported involved Syria.

The report also says that Iran's Revolutionary Guard and state shipping line, IRISL, are increasingly involved in sanctions violations. It says dozens of the maritime company's ships have had their names changed in recent months.

Turkey and Israel have all but buried the hatchet, with Israeli Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon promising to "kiss the hand of each and every Turk" if Ankara can talk Hamas off the ledge. (No one really thinks Ankara can do this, but it's a warm, fuzzy thing to say.)

It's Friday, after prayers, which means Syrians are being shot, and soon there will be flood of videos on Twitter showing this.

India has just come out against the Iran sanctions. Everyone has a right to peaceful nuclear power, you know.

And in Turkey, the leader of the BDP--the Kurdish party--has made an ominous statement:

We are determined to not enter Parliament unless the six elected deputies now in custody are released. We will not go to Parliament one single deputy short. What this would take us to is the PKK ending its cease-fire. We are aware of the PKK’s current mood. It is a matter of time before the cease-fire is lifted. This means bloodshed. Who is behind this will not matter at all.

Good luck with the isolationism!

Egypt's gonna get one too,
Just to use on you know who.
...

"The Lord's our shepherd," says the psalm,
But just in case, we better get a Bomb.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the reported Syrian troops movements were "very worrisome."

What's more worrisome? That we have a Secretary of State who openly articulates such timidity and weakness in the face of such a threat to the region. January 2013 can't come soon enough.

"An emergency meeting was held at the Turkish headquarters of the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Ankara to discuss the latest developments on the Syrian-Turkish borders particularly after Syrian soldiers came approximately 500 meters close to Turkish borders, BBC Arabic reported on Friday.

The meeting was headed by Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Davutoglu and attended by military figures, the report also said, adding that the participants discussed the possible scenarios that might occur if Syrian soldiers tried to forcefully prevent Syrian refugees from crossing into Turkish territories."
