Nothing cynical need be said about this. It's just good to see the decency here.

In his short address, delivered minutes before he was due to travel to the sight of the Carmel fire, Netanyahu thanked Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for sending fire-fighting aircraft to aid Israel in its battle against the conflagration. ...

Other countries sending aid to arrive at Israel later Friday support included Cyprus, Egypt, Jordan, France, U.K., Croatia, Russia, Spain, and Romania. Overall, more than 20 fire-fighting planes are expected to arrive in Israel, with New York's fire department also agreeing to send a firefighting airplane to Israel.

This fire is tragic and senseless. I'm glad to know many in the world are trying to help.  I'm not so cynical as to be surprised by this, but not so naive as to take it for granted.

This part of the story also deserves note:

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the death toll has risen to 41, all from a bus of Israeli prison guards that caught ablaze as it headed to rescue Palestinian inmates at a nearby prison threatened by the massive blaze.

They died trying to save Palestinian prisoners.

I've mentioned on Ricochet that Turkey's firefighters are superb. I hope for many reasons that Turkish firefighting expertise will be useful to the Israelis.

It is when this sort of self-sacrifce happens; that I renew my hopes for the future. Having lost 170+ Australians recently in bushfires, I can only hope the Israeli situation is brought safely under control in the shortest of time.

From the list of countries helping Israel it appears the "international disapproval of Israel" may indeed be the invention of the politicians and journalists . As they rush to shore to watch a Gaza flotilla with the same speed as they will run from this story, we are reminded that people who want to help are a community.

The endless posturing has worn the world down and things like Durban can now happen with impunity, Canada's courage goes unreported. Obami are doing their party schedules now for the sick soirees that will allow Susan Rice to rub shoulders with some of the world's truly ghastly people.

We can only hope the people of NY will take umbrage and bar the doors at every opportunity.

And let's remember the Israelis who just died trying to save Palestinian prisoners . And remember and remember and .........

Yeah, sorry, but I am that cynical. Turks, Egyptians, and Jordanians risking their lives to save Jews? That's impressive.
