The View From The Cab #7: The View From The Brand New Cab
What's a road warrior without an occasional new chariot? Ricochet's road warrior, Dave Carter, has landed in a brand new 2012 truck which he describes as, "Like driving a brand new hotel." Want to hear what it's like to do a house move from one semi to another? Want to hear the new truck? Listen in below.

You are listed as the second Post. Rob was 1st. Your first post was about a rough lunch buddy.
Re: The View From The Cab #7: The View From The Brand New Cab
Oh yes! That's right. The stuffed bear! Great lunch companion, but he didn't have much to say. I'd forgotten about that too. Thanks!!

Fine looking rig, Dave. May it serve you well and keep you safe. You are pretty important to a number of folks around here, you know.
Re: The View From The Cab #7: The View From The Brand New Cab
Thank you AUMom. You folks are like an extended family to me, to be honest.

What brand & model fifth wheel?
When I was a lad I worked at a tractor repair shop. We also finished new trucks. We installed fifth wheels and other stuff on new trucks. Since I was the useless snot nosed kid (and dangerous with a torch) I got to drive brand new tractors back & forth from the dealer's. The plastic was still on the seats and they all had that new truck smell.

Whoa, that sound like a nice truck and silly me thinking that Volvos were nice trucks, Congratulation.
Since the cabin is so well isolated, is there aid to hear something from the outside or a sound system to make people on the outside hear you ?
Is it allowed to use the horn to make people behave in America ?

Congratulations on the new rig!
I see a big red button and a big yellow button. I assume the red button is the "Oh Ship!" button. So is the yellow button for those "I'm not ready to yell, 'Oh Ship!', but I might need more coffee." moments?
How many years have you been saving up for this rig? Or did you run across a suitcase of Obama money? I hear they grow right out of the ground!

Oh, I just saw this on Top Gear! One of them is the parking brake, and the other is the trailer brake....right Dave?

"a decidedly unattractive limp..."
Was this voted on? Or was it something that was just rammed through, or perhaps even put in place during a recess...?
Congrats on the new rig!

Mark, right you are. The yellow one is the tractor brake, and the red is for the trailer. When a truck parks and you hear that big swoosh of air, that is the driver pulling those brake releases. It forces all the air out of the air brake system (hence, that sound) which in turn locks up the brakes and presto, the vehicle is parked.

Not yet. I'm still puzzling over that one. The Hilton springs to mind, though.

Dave, it's a magnificent thing. What's it got under the hood, transmission, and so on? How do they compare with old truck? How's the "driveability"? Stay safe.
