The US Midterm Elections: the Chinese Animation Version
About ten weeks until the midterm elections, the Republicans have taken a 10 point lead in the generic ballot. The latest Gallup poll is here.
But, honestly, I prefer to get my news from our friends at Next Media in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Their hilariously Chinese animated explanation of the coming midterms is here, and it's really worth a click.
I say "our friends at Next Media" because they are our friends -- we've got some Next Media folk as members -- and because the founder of the company, Jimmy Lai, is a true defender of liberty and a thorn in the side of the oligarchs in Beijing.
Look, you can get your news from graphs or an RSS feed or boring old newspaper articles, or you can get it from funny cartoons from Taiwan who put Carly Fiorina on a giant elephant.
My choice is made.

Is it any stranger than that sad spectacle we watched the other night called the Emmy Awards? This is our industry, Rob, and there's nothing like watching Al Pacino calling a cold blooded killer "brilliant and interesting and unique."

I can't watch this video on my Android phone but just the promise of such a video is making me laugh out here on Le Boulevard de Queens. AOSHQ posts these all the time and I find them much better than Avatar technology ;-)

Pretty sure the elephant-warrior is supposed to be Sarah Palin. This assumption is based equally on the hair bun and the bare midriff.
If all that "Aqua-Buddha" business is true, it'd be the first evidence I've seen that Rand Paul is crazier than his father! And Jerry Brown with laser vision? Nearly as terrifying as the prospect of California electing him!

You're right, Jason. I was watching it on a herky-jerky connection, so I didn't get a great look at the midriff. Even better, I think.

I just wish we had the legislative culture of Taiwan and South Korea, where massive fist-fights erupt on the floor. Hair is yanked, chairs are thrown.
If we're gonna pay through the nose, we should at least get some entertainment out of the deal.

The image of Meg Whitman buying the California governorship on eBay is classic. And understanding that Jerry Brown intends to set her hair on fire with his laser-beam eyes is perhaps the most coherent election strategy he has left.

What I love about these is that you instantly get it -- somehow, young animators in Taiwan manage to understand that Jerry Brown probably is, right this moment, trying to get a pair of laser-beam eyes. And that Meg is spending a lot of eBay money to get the job. And that Sarah Palin sits astride the Republican party like an Amazon warrioress.
Sure, you could expand all of that into a lot of pompous words, but then all you'd have is a Sunday morning political talk-show. I prefer a Saturday morning cartoon.
