A few days ago, there was a discussion on the Member Feed about which Twitter accounts are required follows for conservatives looking for the best of social media. If I may, let me nominate what may seem like an unusual choice: Iowa Senator Charles Grassley.
If you follow any politicians on Twitter, you probably know that most of them tweet little more than pap -- basically just recycled talking points or self-promotion, almost always courtesy of a junior staffer locked away in a windowless office somewhere wondering why he didn't go to business school.
There's nothing wrong with that, of course. That's the way most pols communicate in person too, so, if you have to endure it, why not do so with a 140-character limit?
What makes Grassley so special is that he types up his own missives -- and they're exactly what you'd expect from a 79-year old who's decided to take to Twitter with gusto: blustery, funny, and slightly nuts. Need proof? How about this dispatch from last night?:
