The Ryan Budget: No Changes for Those 55 and Older

Somehow, I just think that this cannot be said often enough, now that the President has decided to demonize the Republicans for failing to "keep the promise we've made to care for our seniors." Seniors, who Obama describes as "those who . . . don't have any clout on Capitol Hill." Well, he's right about that of course. Oh, if only senior citizens had a voice on Capitol Hill! Hey, we could start our own group. Let's see, we could call it the American Association of Retired.... never mind.
As the gray panthers descend on Washington to attack the Ryan budget let's remember - the Medicare proposal does not touch those 55 and older.

The media seems quite determined to let claims to the contrary go unchallenged.

I do wish someone could figure out a way to act on Pat Caddell's implicit advice, get together some conservatives with deep pockets, and put advertisements out to the American people saying a few, simple, clear things. For example: "No one is going to change Social Security benefits for people 55 or older." Or "President Obama thinks anyone who is worried about gas prices can just spring for a new car instead", followed by video clip of him saying that and laughing. Or something equally concise about the effect of the deficit on our children and grandchildren. C'mon, you Ricochet contributors are important people; can't you somehow make this happen?

Adam, Nordman and Lucy all have it! I cannot understand for the life of me, WHY the RNC and other conservative entities persist in letting the Democrats dominate the conversation and let their false statements go unchallenged! To hell with the MSM-TV! Newspapers will still sell ad space (can't trust them to simply publish the truth, but they'll still sell space for it!)...the internet hasn't been taken over...yet!
Public programs can and are changed at times, and can be again, without throwing the baby (the seniors in the program) out with the bath water.
The Dems. throw accusations around and the Republicans, for the most part, cower like they're the 65# skinny kid facing a big bully on the school yard! C'mon, RNC, grow a set!
I think that's why Trump gets the reception he does from the guy on the street...he knows the truth, has the strength of his convictions and doesn't seem to give a damn if it gets "good" press or not. In a nutshell, I think conservatives are spoiling for a good fight!

Lawrence O'Donnell assured his viewers that we're not rugged individualists, and that was a myth. We're really all socialists. We get handouts for education, get deductions for our mortgage, get welfare when we lose a job, and then let the government take care of us when we're old.
And we're broke, trillions in debt, and all those social promises are about to evaporate anyway.
O'Donnell left out that last part.

Geoff is correct, as we're not the ones that are unaware of the facts. Kids, especially, need to be edumacated. I try, gently, with mine. I never give them a political insight, but instead, when they seem to have a complaint that is related to politics (e.g., gas prices), I steer them towards stuff I am aware of that they can find for themselves, on Youtube, or another source they may be comfortable with.
The Boyz will never read a Thomas Sowell article, but there is media that they can digest, for themselves.

Budgeting is a Legislative Branch responsibility.
I'd be content if fewer people called for Obama to "lead" on this issue, and if he failed to lead, if I could just get him to agree to stop being a roadblock to any serious reform by demagoguing long term problems/solutions for short term political gains.
