Click here for an incredibly eerie slide show of the ruins of a once-great American city.

Another ruin: The last Republican Mayor of Detroit, who served from September 12, 1957 to January 2, 1962, and died at the ripe age of 90, in 1987. Every mayor since then, a Democrat. Am I implying a connection? Yes.

I think that's what makes it especially spooky.  I've never been to Detroit, but the slide show makes it look like an abandoned ghost town.

Exactly.  What would it take for all of America to look like that?  I shudder to think what would happen if Detroit's politics and policies were adopted across the nation.

Is that library abandoned or just closed? I find it hard to believe nobody's accepted or simply taken all those books.

The abandoned libraries, with books still on the shelves, are especially eerie.  It is like looking at the Death of Civilization.  Disturbing in a very poignant way.

I understand Yer reference to "spooky," but I was referring to ruined Lives.... which may be higher up on the "ruins" level.

Detroit is an abandoned ghost town.

This is what happens when a city is run by brain-dead liberal idiots.  Pay special attention to Democratic State Representative Marie Donigan, a fiscal dunce who seems to believe that money falls from the sky.  She honestly sees no reason why bankrupt Detroit cannot conjure up $500 million for a useless light rail system.

It is worth another look.  This is a harbinger for the future of many American cities.

Really? That's nice. I've been here less than three weeks.

Did you have a point to make?

Now I know how all the Russians felt when I looked with disgust at their cities.  Shame... but this time the shoe is on the other foot. How can people in our own country be so blind and even continue to drive it further into the ground?

Notice it's run by a UK newspaper.

Apologies.  I'd thought the images looked strangely familiar, but was fooled into thinking they were new since they appeared in the Guardian this week.

Of course. The genius of the Democratic Party is that it deals political junk. Junkies seldom vote against their dealers. There will always be a Democratic Party, manufacturing Detroits.

But I hadn't registered to comment yet, so I'm glad she did!

I'm a resident of a suburb near Detroit & have lived here for over 14 winters.  I go to Detroit as little as possible.

When my company transferred me here and I brought my wife up to do some house hunting, I made the tactical error of driving through Detroit on the way north to the suburbs. 14 years ago it was depressing, dangerous, and scary at night and it is beyond obvious to say it's now worse.  Once grand neighborhoods are either vacant or should be.  The entire government apparatus is corrupt. While the photos of once glorious but now empty structures are haunting, the reality of what is happening to this city is disgusting.

It doesn't have to be this way.  It has nothing to do with the automotive companies, economics, or even politics.  It's incompetence, compounded, with interest!

Yes, the photos look like scenes from a sci-fi flick where all the people were either mysteriously wiped out or had to leave suddenly.

Isn't there some salvage value in some of what is left there? The buildings themselves obviously need to be razed, but to just leave everything in that suspended animation state is too weird.

Well, folks didn't pay much attention when I put it up, so you've shared it more widely.

The abandoned police station with all of the strewn files and photographs is, also, symbolic of the Death of Civilization.

Yeah, we try not step on each others posts here without attribution.

And when I want to make a point to you, you'll know about it.
