Jonorose made a great suggestion the other day: He proposed we open a "Ricochet Marketplace" where members can sell things to each other.

I'll run that idea up the flagpole with the bosses and see what salutes, but in the meantime, I'm probably the only one awake and sober enough to take the initiative. So I hereby formally open the 2012 Ricochet Free Market. Let's all celebrate the New Year the Ricochet way--by selling things people want at prices they want to pay.

If you build, create, improve or innovate, this thread's for you. Tell us about it! What do you do, how much does it cost, why is it great, and where should we go to buy it?  (And if you don't, what are you doing on Ricochet? Shouldn't you be on Daily Kos or something, waiting for a government handout?)

Don't be shy! I reckon we all want to start 2012 with private enterprise, entrepreneurialism, and economic growth.

Street-signs-Liberty-Talent

Don't have anything to sell quite yet? I'll bet you have an idea. Tell us about it and we'll all have a think about the best way to turn it into a product that improves other peoples' lives and puts money in your pocket.

And the way:

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #52,364 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

#11 in Books > Politics & Social Sciences > Current Events > Arms Control

That, believe it or not, is my doctoral dissertation

Wow! Ok, so let me be the first to take advantage!

If you have any plans to visit Israel in the near future, my company - Touring Israel - offers private, custom tailored tours. We can take care of everything from the moment you land in the country until you leave (we don't do international air) and offer some of the best tour guides working in the country. We can book your hotel (rates are cheaper than you'll find online) and we can make restaurant reservations for you, book you theatre or concert tickets..... whatever floats your boat! We ain't cheap - we are in the luxury category - but if you get together with a few people it will bring the price per person down to something manageable. I would ultimately LOVE to put together a special tour for Ricochet members that would include meetings with journalists, politicians, academics, business leaders, religious leaders etc. If we have a bus the price will be very manageable. Check out our website - www.touringisrael.com. We have amazing reviews and a flawless reputation. (I'm not the owner, but my best friend who I met in the army 20 years ago is.)

Congratulations Claire!

I participated in your brainstorming thread and I am very happy to see your success(es). Just as a point of reference (because I don't have a baseline to understand it) an overall ranking of 52K translates to how many copies? How does the ranking process work (does it renew periodically or is it a lifetime thing?)

Have a very happy and prosperous New Year.

Those are beautiful--my first suggestion would be to embed one in your post, to make sure people click on the link. Like this:

I have no idea what that means or how the rankings work. I've figured out how to track my sales on Kindle, and I've sold about 75 of the Thatcher interviews. I haven't figured out yet how to track sales on CreateSpace, so all I know for sure is that at least one person bought the dissertation. Collectively, it isn't enough to buy a plane ticket to Abidjan yet--but if the pace of sales stays steady, it really could be in a few months.

Please Claire-ify. I've had a product I've been marketing for about 10 years with little success, and would be grateful for any outlet. No lawyer wants to be a lawyer forever. However, I don't want to bore everyone with a pitch that isn't wanted or would violate a code of conduct. I got the impression from Tommy DeSeno's comment on Jonorose's post that there'd be some sort of limitation to those items which would further Ricochet's mission. If that's the case, I'm cool with it, but the entreprenurial instinct strikes deep. By the way, I woke up this morning only to discover that it's a new year. Best wishes to all.

Claire, do you get any reimbursement if someone who has Amazon Prime uses the library to read your Thatcher interviews? I am the proud owner of a Kindle Fire thanks to a Christmas present from my daughters, it comes with a months free Amazon Prime.

This thread is for marketing your great stuff, period. If your product itself violates the Code of Conduct, however ...

Why, I don't rightly know. I'm not sure what Amazon Prime is. I'm really just figuring this out myself.

Well, if Claire can plug her e-book...

I'm gonna plug mine.

For Their Own Good & Frank Cohen Wakes Up

It's two original science fiction stories by me for the low low price of $4.99.

For Their Own Good is a chilling tale of what happens when the power of individuals to make decisions for themselves is taken away and society makes decisions for the greater good.
Frank Cohen wakes up in a strange hospital room. He doesn’t know what has happened or how he got there. Now he needs to reassemble his mind, his history and his life from the clues he’s given.

Frank Cohen Wakes Up is a story of death and rebirth that asks the question: What makes a man? Is it his body or is it his mind?

I believe if you sign up, as an e-book author, for Amazon Prime, I think its for 60 days, you get a cut of the Amazon Prime profits.

I had been doing set-up and repair of guitars and basses on the side for years. There is nothing heavy involved; I like that. Maybe I'll resurrect the service?

Claire, thanks for thinking of us.  I will try to take advantage of the opportunity.

"Now, fair warning, this isn't a fun read. It's a doctoral dissertation. It sat, unread by anyone, in Oxford University's Social Science Library for nearly a decade. I know this, because I went once to see how many people had checked it out, and discovered to my horror that not one single soul had signed the check-out slip. Not one."

This is a quote from your post on the 30th about you doctoral dissertation.  I know how you feel.  I just posted something long and well..dry on Member Feed.  No one has commented yet!  Ahh..Claire...could you go over and maybe say something about my post.

Thanks

Jim
